Certified Flooring Inspector

This past Tuesday, a Certified Flooring Inspector man came to our house to check out the grout problem. Nala and I had to stay in the bedroom until he left. I was the quiet one — Nala barked up a storm!

Certified Flooring Inspector
While Nala & I were in the bedroom, we heard the man talking to
mommy. He told her all the possible reasons why the grout wasn’t
curing properly. He told her that he had a few tests to do…
First, he checked to see if the floor was level.

Certified Flooring Inspector
Then he took out his moisture detector, and went all over the
entire floor checking for excess moisture. He said there was none.

Certified Flooring Inspector
He also took out some round thing called a ’tile puck.’ It had a
tiny level in the center, which showed whether the floor was straight.
He kicked it across the floor to see if any parts of the tile were uneven.

Certified Flooring Inspector
He also put the puck on its side, and set it on the floor
to see where the slope of the room was. It rolled a little and
then it stopped. It turns out that our floor isn’t too sloped.

Certified Flooring Inspector
As soon as the man left, mommy let Nala and me out of the
bedroom. I caught a glimpse of him as he was getting into his car.

Certified Flooring Inspector
Nala & I watched the man as he drove away, and
wondered what would come next with the floor.

I overheard the man tell mommy that he thinks the reason we’re getting holes in the grout, is because underneath the tile, including the grout, hasn’t completely cured yet. He said that takes at least 2 months. Mommy was very frustrated, because it was a whole 8 months with the first complete grouting, and the grout was still developing holes!

The man said that mommy should receive his report from the store today. The man said that it takes about 2 months for grout to completely ‘cure.’ He also said he would recommend to the store, that he come back in October/November, to see if any other holes develop in the grout over the next 6 months. We’ll let you know how that goes…

Thanks so much to all of you for sticking by us during The Big Thing. It means a lot to us! <3

Wow what a nightmare, I am glad we don’t have that kind of floor. I bet you are glad he is gone though. I hope you can go back to normal life now my pals.

  3. We didn’t know it took that long for grout to cure. Grandpa did the tile in the Master Bedroom and Daddy did the tile in the boys bathroom. Mommy remembers it was a pain especially the boys bathroom cause Daddy didn’t know what he was doing and Mommy had to help. Grandpa laid tile for a living before Mommy was born, so he knew how to do it. Luckily he taught Mommy while he was laying the tile so she could explain to Daddy.

Wow, it sounds like you are really getting the runaround from that tile place. We hope you have a contract and a written guarantee that covers you at least through that next inspection and even beyond. If not, Mom says you need to get them to put something in writing ASAP about guaranteeing they will make this right.

In the meantime, great photos of you pups – looks like you are singing a song in one of them, Bailey.

I say you plant grass in the house and be done with the grout. Just a suggestion.
