Strangers in My House, AGAIN! (& Video)

Yesterday turned out to be a really stressful day for me. It got so bad, that when I was left alone for a while inside my crate, I tore apart my pillowcase. Yep… it was pretty bad.

After my family returned home, they let me out of my house as usual, put my collar back on, and let me outside. Same routine as always. No one ever noticed that there was anything different. I can’t keep a secret though, so when I got back inside, I went into my house and brought out a piece of the zipper that I had broke. I started playing with it right there in front of them.

As soon as I lay down to play with it, MT blurts out, “What does Bailey have?” Heh, mommy turned to look at me, noticed the white thing I had hanging out of my mouth, and jumped up immediately. I wagged my tail because I knew this was a bad thing. Mommy then took the piece of pillowcase out of my mouth, looked at it, and said, “Oh nooo.” I knew she recognized what it was.

She then went to my house, and noticed that the entire end of my pillowcase was ripped off and long strips of the zipper were all over. The next few minutes were kind of a blur for me. I wasn’t punished, but I do recall hearing words like, “amazing, oh well, no more pillow, and bad.”

Sigh. The dreaded bad. Thankfully I don’t get that too often, or I might feel sad about it.

Do you remember when we had a stranger come stay with us for a few days last month? I didn’t like that at all. It was a friend of the family, and even though she was nice, I just couldn’t get used to her being in my house, all the time.

Yesterday was just not an ordinary day. In my last post, I mentioned that there was a man who came to work on our Internet, TV and phone service. Well, I knew something was up when mommy first ushered Nala and me into separate bedrooms. This happened just this past week, but it wasn’t for that long. What’s up with this week and strangers? I don’t know how much of it I can handle.

After Nala and I went into separate bedrooms, I could still hear Nala barking. It made me sooo crazy to hear her needing my help. I tried to get out of MT’s room, but there was that darn door to deal with!

After a few minutes, I didn’t hear Nala bark anymore… but I was still very agitated. Mommy came into the room, put a leash on me, and brought me into the kitchen. Nala didn’t have a leash on — why didn’t she need to wear one?

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
Stuck on a leash, inside the house.

On a leash, I sat next to my mommy in the kitchen. Before I knew what was happening, a strange man came into the room, and walked past us straight into our garage. It was only for an instant, but I had my guard up immediately. I barked at him like he was attacking our family. Mommy tried to calm me down, but it just wasn’t going to happen.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
Just let me at him…

At this time, Nala was also barking like crazy, but she wasn’t causing any trouble. The only thing she was doing, was making me even more agitated. So mommy put a leash on her too! Haha!

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
Nala: “What did I do?”

There we sat, in the kitchen… both Nala and me.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
Don’t they realize that we only want to protect our family?

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
As long as we didn’t see the man, Nala and I were quiet.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
Nala was even able to take a nap. I couldn’t do anything but stay on guard.

Then the man came back into the living room to finish his work. I went crazzzy! Watch the video below the photos.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
Stay away from my family, strange man!

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
If they just let me off of this leash…

After 3 hours of the man walking back and forth throughout our house, it was time for him to leave.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
The man said he also had a big doggie at home.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
He tried to make friends with me, but I wasn’t ready.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
Daddy finally had to calm me down.

And that’s the end of my stressful day. Or so I thought

But just a few hours later, there were even more strangers at the door! They were a bunch of jokesters, and so they rang the doorbell over and over, and over again. It made Nala and me go nuts!

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
Mommy says I’ve met these strangers before, when I was a little puppy.
She says they’re family.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
Are you sure? ‘Cause I don’t remember them.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
I went around sniffing everyone, and barking. Sniffing & barking. Over & over.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
Nala didn’t seem to have a problem with them.
How come she remembers them and I don’t?

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
Sometimes the strangers managed to pet me as I was passing.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
But no matter what they did, I didn’t like it.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
I continued to sniff and bark, but this family of strangers didn’t go away.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
Sometimes I let them get close. I even got up in their faces a few times.
But I never trusted them.

I think they thought I needed more puppy classes. I heard them talking and they said I should have stopped barking by now. Mommy tried to show them all the things I could do, but I just couldn’t concentrate.

They didn’t get to see how well I listen. They didn’t get to see how I could “go far,” or how well I relax when I feel safe. They didn’t get to see how playful and loving I am around people I feel safe with.

Mommy’s sad they didn’t get to see the real me. She stuck up for me a lot though. Mommy says in the end, it doesn’t matter what other people think about me. What matters most is what my mommy, daddy and MT know to be the truth. They love me and know what a good doggie I am, most of the time. I guess I’ll just have to live with that for now.

Strangers in My House, AGAIN
After the family of strangers left, I was overwhelmed with smells.
I sniffed and licked stuff I normally don’t.
I’m just crazy like that.

Have a happy, safe, and non-stressful Memorial Day holiday, friends!

Woofs & hugs,

~Bailey

    hey Bailey,

That is bizarre about my Comment. It was actually a long comment, with the first line being what showed up [“Your post ended on such a sad note. :-] It even cut off the rest of the sad face I was making! Weird.

    Suffice it to say, I was very complimentary on you and Nala! And I know that one day soon your visiting family will see and know the real you and love you just as much as we all do! {But I am sure they love you tons now, anyway. How could they not? :->}

That is odd! I didn’t realize it was that post — I thought it was the other one you posted at the same time. So strange!!

One of these days I’m gonna have to work on getting an easier comment verification. I can’t wait til I find something better. πŸ™‚

So sorry your comment got cut off!

      Woofs & hugs,

Oh dear, so sorry those strangers came to bother you. We could tell you just wanted your family to be safe.

It’s OK, one day I’m sure you’ll understand those people are no real danger. But it can take time.

‘Til then we still love you the same, no matter what people can say ! They know nothing about ya. And we agree with your mommy – her, you daddy and MT are the ones who know what you’re really like πŸ™‚

Hope you enjoy some quiet and nice family time now,

    Love,

    Lincoln

  5. Hi there Bailey! Thank you for visiting Miss Maple’s blog and wishing her a happy barkday. It sounds like you had quite the weekend with so many visitors coming in and our of your house. I can understand how you might have gotten a little antsy with them invading your space and all.

Maple used to be the quietest little pup who would walk up to any stranger and start requesting for belly rubs. Now, she has become quite a vocal pupster and is selective when it comes to who she barks at (both humans and canines)—it puzzles us, really!

Hope the rest of your weekend will be a little calmer πŸ™‚

Its really okay Bailey.. i go crazy too when strangers come to my house. I have to secure the house and keep my family safe. Sometimes when i hear strange noises in the middle of the night, i bark the house down too. I just did that yesterday night πŸ™‚ I am good at keeping my family safe and its totally right of you to be wary of strangers.

Hope you have a less stressful day today Bailey!

  7. That’s okay Bailey. I get a bit crazy too when we have people come to visit. And I don’t like to have blankets or anything in my crate with me. I like the cool feeling that the bottom of the crate has.

And I love you just the way you are. You are a pawsome friend!!!

    Puppy Kisses,
    Tanner.

  8. Aw Bailey! Poor you! It’s no fun being so nervous around strange people. I hope, one day, you’ll realize what a big, strong dog you are and that you don’t have any reason to be frightened or anxious because your peeps will take care of you and watch out for you!

Stumpy is a fearful and reactive dog, but settles down, after a while, with proper introductions.. it took a long time to get there

    Happy tails!

It’s fixed now! Thanks for letting me know. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

        Happy holiday woofs & hugs,
