Grandma’s Here! (& a New Trick, Video)

I’ve only seen my grandma once before — we went to her house to celebrate Thanksgiving last year. I was just 5 months old. She told my mommy that I was very well-behaved, and that made me happy. Mommy usually visits her at her house, but this time she came to visit us at ours!

Before I tell you how my visit with grandma went, I wanted to share something with you — Mommy taught me a new trick!

You see… mommy and Taylor joke that I am a very stubborn doggie. They say that with a smile, but I know they’re right. I am stubborn. I know how to do lots of things, and I can learn, too. But it’s no fun to do anything without getting a treat. Sometimes mommy and Taylor try and teach me stuff, but I just sit there ’cause there are no treats! Don’t they get it? Maybe they are the ones that need to learn. πŸ˜‰

Anyway… this trick is really very simple, but they never took the time to teach me with treats. They should know by now that I will do almost anything for food.

Nala’s been doing this trick for a long time, and she usually goes around really fast (’cause she gets so excited). It’s called, SPIN. Not the spin that gets you dizzy (I can do that all on my own — watch for future video). The spin where you go around in a circle… s_l_o_w_l_y. πŸ˜‰

Taylor took a video of me doing SPIN. You don’t have to keep your sound up, but if you do, you’ll hear mommy giving me directions.

Now for Grandma’s visit!

If you’ve been following me for quite some time, you’ll know how well I do when strangers come to my house. If you haven’t, I’ll just say that I don’t really like it. I bark and growl a lot and am not very trustful of people I don’t know. For example… Here’s one post and here’s another that show what I mean.

Somehow, even if Nala hasn’t met the person, she just seems to know if they’re family and/or a friend. If they’re neither, she’ll go a little nuts herself, but she’ll calm down after a while if mommy keeps telling her to. I don’t know how she does it — I need to have a talk with that girl. πŸ˜‰

This past week my grandma came to visit in our house. As soon as she came in the door, Nala jumped all over her — it was like she was seeing an old friend. It looked like Nala was happy to see this lady, who I apparently had forgotten about. It’s not my fault — I’ve only met her one time when I was a little puppy!

Mommy kept telling me that I knew grandma, and so I didn’t give her the full stranger treatment… I was just a little cautious. But boy was I curious about her!

So this is grandma, huh? I don’t remember meeting you before.

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
You remember me? Yeah, I did grow a lot in 8 months.
I was only 5 months old then!

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
You know grandma, Nala?

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
Hmmm… Nala likes her.

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
And it looks like she gives good scratchies.

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
Hey! I wanna get a better look at grandma, too!

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
No sudden movements… check!

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
Nice white sneakers… check!

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
Smells good… check!

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
I think I like this grandma.

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
Maybe I’ll let her touch me, too.

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
Should I let her touch me, mommy?

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
ooooh…

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
I wish grandma came over more often.

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
Oh nooo, is it time to leave already?

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
I was just starting to enjoy you being here, grandma.

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
Please come back again soon, OK?

Grandma's Here! (& a New Trick)
I miss you already, grandma. <3

By the way… if you haven’t noticed — I changed my website header! Mommy thought I should put a more recent photo of me up there, since I’m not a cute little puppy anymore. But I’m still a puppy at 1 year 26 days, right? (and still cute?) πŸ˜‰

Happy Friday woofs & hugs!

~Bailey (Yep, I’m a girl)

Toby and I aren’t very good when someone comes to the door, but Mom does the same thing with treats. I’m glad you had your Grandma come visit. That was very special! I bet you’ll have lots of visits to look forward to now.

Riley BOL! Yeah I’m a bit stubborn without treats too πŸ˜‰ You do that slow spin real well! Glad you didn’t eat Grandma BOL! I do the same thing when strangers come to my house. Scared a few of the neighbors away Oops. Mom has to properly introduce me first. I see her get treats in her hand and then give them to the good people to give to me. Then I know they’re okay and I smile and greet them with glee πŸ˜€

    Waggin at ya,

We are glad you gave grandma a chance…she turned out to be pretty special, huh? Did you get to show her your new trick? Sometimes it pays to follow Nala’s lead.

  5. Bailey, you and Nala are so good and so cute!!! We think grandma’s are the very best and we bet she comes back soon!!!! Love your header!! Lots of love, Debbie & Holly

Your spin is very cute, Bailey! And it looks like you learned to enjoy your Grandma being there quite quickly. Lola is very much like you–she definitely doesn’t like strangers coming into the house (even, for some people, if it’s the third or fourth time they’ve visited!)

  7. Glad you had a good visit with grandma!!! Looks like she is well worth getting to know! And your trick looks pawsome. You do need to train those people better. Treat are a must for trick! Don’t they get it?

    Puppy Kisses,

    Tanner

  10. You did really well on that trick and YES – why doesn’t the mom get it – we only do tricks when there is something good to tempt us. Now you have spin down you can learn “go round” where you have to walk around your Mom come back to the front and sit.

So good that grandma came to visit

Thank goodness you were Happee to see grandma. We didn’t want you to scare her away. Cool trick, we better hire your momma to teach us something new. Lazy keeps telling us tomorrow, tomorrow

  13. Pee Ess, we forgot to say we really enjoyed your video. Spin is a fun trick.

  14. Sometimes when someone new or someone we don’t see very often comes to visit, Mom has them give us a couple of treats so we learn they are OK to have here. We don’t have a Grandma ( Mom is the Grandma now) but we think yours must be very nice. Have a great weekend.
