Today is Nala’s day!! <3\n
\nI rescheduled my original post (my vet visit) for 11-22-13, ’cause today’s my furry sister, Nala’s birthday! She’s 15! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

When I was rescued by my family a little more than 3 years ago, I never imagined I’d be so happy. I was separated from my 2 other sisters, and I had no idea what was happening the night I rode home in the back seat of the car in my hu-sister Taylor’s arms. I also didn’t know, that I’d have a new furry sister waiting for me when we got home. Her name is Nala. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Nala didn’t care for me much when she first saw me. She’d been an only doggie for about 12 years, and she didn’t like the idea of sharing her space and her family with another doggie. She also didn’t like the fact that I was growing… and eventually grew to be MUCH bigger than her. Thanks to some bloggie friends, especially those at the White Dog Diary<\/a>, I knew to just wait it out. They knew Nala would eventually come around to accept me. <\/p>\n

Well, it took almost a year, but now here we are 3 years later… we’re best friends. She doesn’t play with me much anymore ’cause she’s 15 and has some trouble getting around, but sometimes she sprints and hops around in the backyard with me. It doesn’t last long though. She also is no longer afraid of me, and she even steps on me to get to where she wants to go. We both still help alert our family to possible dangers outside — I bark, then Nala barks… then I bark because Nala’s barking. <\/p>\n

We used to have a couch by the window, but that’s been gone for a while. Daddy said he would build us our own bench (hmmmm), but in the meantime, we’ve been using Taylor’s old toy bench. Nala’s been having lots of trouble jumping up on it, so thanks to our friends at
\nThe Doxie Life of Lily, Muffin and their Humans<\/a>, who made a ramp for themselves, mommy urged daddy to put something together fast, so we didn’t have to worry about Nala falling when trying to get up on the bench.<\/p>\n

\nHow do you work this thing?<\/em><\/p>\n

\nI tried to figure it out, but I was baffled.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nWhen daddy first attached the ‘ramp,’ they didn’t
\nhave a soft runner to put on top… so they used
\na small piece of carpet they had.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nNala did not like the ramp at first.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"A
\nShe had trouble walking up, but I told her to keep trying.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nSoon enough she was walking up the ramp.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nIt’s been a week with the ramp, and Nala’s
\nused to walking up and down it. Daddy may end up
\nmaking railings for the ramp, ’cause Nala keeps
\ntrying to get up from the side, and tries to jump
\noff when she wants to get down. Right now, we put
\na chair next to the ramp, so Nala would have to
\nwalk down instead of jumping off. \ud83d\ude42<\/em>
\n<\/center><\/p>\n
