It’s never easy when a furry friend visits the Rainbow Bridge. Today I’d like to honor my mommy’s best friend’s doggie, Mickey, who crossed over the Rainbow Bridge just 2 days ago.

\nI wrote about Mickey just a couple of months ago, in my post, Prayers for a Friend<\/a>. Mickey lived 13 years with his human mommy and daddy, and 4 years with his little brother, Barney. Just a couple of months ago, it was discovered that Mickey had cancer, but no one knew for sure how long he had.<\/p>\n

Within this past week, Mickey had taken a turn for the worse, but he seemed to recover just a couple of days ago. Another test was done, and Mickey got to go home for a couple more days. But Friday was his time. My mommy’s friend, her hubby, her doggie sitter and Mickey’s furry brother, Barney, were at the doggie doctor when it was time for Mickey to go. Barney got to say goodbye to his brother one last time. <\/p>\n

The Last Battle<\/strong><\/p>\n

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
\nAnd pain should keep me from my sleep,<\/p>\n

Then will you do what must be done,
\nFor this — the last battle — can’t be won.<\/p>\n

You will be sad I understand,
\nBut don’t let grief then stay your hand,<\/p>\n

For on this day, more than the rest,
\nYour love and friendship must stand the test.<\/p>\n

We have had so many happy years,
\nYou wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
\nWhen the time comes, please, let me go.<\/p>\n

Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
\nOnly, stay with me till the end<\/p>\n

And hold me firm and speak to me
\nUntil my eyes no longer see.<\/p>\n

I know in time you will agree
\nIt is a kindness you do to me.<\/p>\n

Although my tail it last has waved,
\nFrom pain and suffering I have been saved.<\/p>\n

Don’t grieve that it must be you
\nWho has to decide this thing to do;<\/p>\n

We’ve been so close — we two — these years,
\nDon’t let your heart hold any tears.<\/p>\n

Mommy told Mickey’s mommy that she now has a beautiful angel watching over them. <\/p>\n
