Last Thursday was supposed to be the last day of the floor installation. But by the second day<\/a>, mommy wasn’t too sure.

\nOur tile installation is now complete! Here’s what was going on last week:<\/p>\n

By the end of last Wednesday, there were still many tiles to be cut and placed around the edges. And after the installer man left, mommy and daddy noticed that the grout line was a little bit different in many places. There was this one spot in front of the dishwasher, where the grout line was much wider along one tile. When the installer man came back for Thursday’s install, mommy and daddy asked if that one tile could be replaced. The installer man explained that he could fix the space that was showing (he’ll make the grout line match where it’s visible on the floor, and place the uneven side underneath where the dishwasher will be so no one will see the difference. Then the installer man told mommy and daddy about something called, “rectified.” <\/p>\n

“Recified” tile is tile that has had all edges mechanically finished to achieve a more precise facial dimension.” Mommy and daddy never heard of “rectified” tile — the lady at the store never mentioned it. <\/p>\n

Apparently there are standards. According to the American National Standards Institute<\/a>, there are specifications for ceramic tile. And The American Society of Home Inspectors<\/a> says, “The tile industry, unlike other floor covering products, has an American National Standard for the Installation of Ceramic Tile (ANSI A108), an American National Standard for Setting Materials (ANSI A118 ), and an American National Standard for Ceramic Tile Products (ANSI A137.1).” <\/p>\n

The American Society of Testing and Materials<\/a> (ASTM) established and conducts standard tests to make sure that tiles meet their standards regarding physical and chemical properties.<\/p>\n

Besides these standards, The final product must meet certain specifications regarding physical and chemical properties (mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, water absorption, dimensional stability, frost resistance, and linear coefficient of thermal expansion). These properties are determined by standard tests established by the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM). <\/p>\n

Phew! Who knew there were so many guidelines for installing ceramic tile? I sure didn’t. <\/p>\n

As the days went on, it started to sound as if the installer man was having a few problems. How did I know this? Well, by Thursday (day 3), the installer man was sighing heavily, “oohing” & “ahhing,” and saying, “Jeeeeez,” lots of times. Yep, we all heard him from inside Taylor’s room. Not sure what was going on in the other room, but there was sure a lot of noise. We hoped everything was OK.<\/p>\n

\nNala and I did a lot of sleeping again. <\/em><\/p>\n

\nDid I tell you that Taylor’s bed is reallyyy comfy? <\/em><\/p>\n

\nI’m sure you’ve heard of “bed head…” These are my “bed ears.” \ud83d\ude09 <\/em><\/p>\n

\nI got a little bored, so I tried to play with Nala. <\/em><\/p>\n

\nThere wasn’t much room to run around in Taylor’s room,
\nbut we did the best that we could to play. <\/em><\/p>\n

\nI even found room to spin around. <\/em><\/p>\n

\nAll Nala really wanted to do was hang out. <\/em><\/p>\n

\nBut I wanted to PLAY! So mommy played with me
\nas much as she could, until I got tuckered out. \ud83d\ude42 <\/em><\/p>\n

\nHere’s a first look at the floor as the installer man puts the grout down. <\/em><\/center><\/p>\n

All that needed to be done after this day was the sealer, which mommy and daddy are going to do 3 days after the grout is done.<\/p>\n
