We come across a lot of creatures in our backyard… like lizards, snakes, spiders, various buggies, occasional neighborhood kitties, and frogs. I don’t want to come into contact with either of those (well, except for the lizards and kitties), butt it’s those big, bad Bufo Toads<\/em> that I really need to watch out for.
\n
\nAs I’ve mentioned before<\/a>, when this non-native species is threatened or handled, it secretes a highly toxic milky substance from its large parotoid glands at the back of its head, behind the ears. This secretion can burn your eyes, may irritate your skin, and can kill cats and dogs if they ingest the secretion.<\/p>\n

The other day, I found this toad in the grass. Mommy came right over to see what I was looking at, and rushed me away from it. Then she made sure he wouldn’t be hanging around in the middle of the yard anymore. <\/p>\n

\nLook at this guy — isn’t he scary?!<\/em><\/p>\n

\nHe’s HUGE!!<\/em><\/p>\n

\nMommy used a rake to persuade the toad to move to
\nthe other side of the yard. I couldn’t take my eyes
\noff of him, though… he thought I couldn’t see him.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nHe couldn’t hide from us though.
\nWe watched his every move!<\/em><\/p>\n

\nMommy shooed him away by putting a rake
\nnear him. Then he started hopping away!<\/em><\/p>\n

\nLook how long his legs are!<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Bufo
\nMommy made sure he went to the other side of the yard.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Bufo
\nOnce mommy had him on the other side of the yard,
\nshe kept moving the rake alongside him, so he would
\nkeep going in the right direction. He was almost there!<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Bufo
\nThat’s when he jumped into the space under the shed
\nthat daddy made. I guess if you’re a toad, it’s a nice
\nplace to live. You’d have to like lizards, ’cause there
\nare lots of lizards living underneath there!<\/em>
\n<\/center><\/p>\n

If you ever happen to come across a big frog or toad, don’t take any chances — stay as far away from it as you can. If you do come in contact with him and you ingest toxins, have your mommy use a hose to rinse out your mouth and\/or your eyes, then call the doggie doctor! <\/p>\n

Watch out for those toads, friends! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
