Thinking About Relatives & MO Tornado Update

My 1 year birthday is coming up faster than my family can upload videos to my site! (haha) This got my mommy thinking about my 2 biological sisters we left behind the day they adopted me.

Before I talk about my 2 sisters though, I want to share the following video with you. Thanks to Cherie K. Miller of Pet Peeves for sharing it with me. The song in the video is by The Mark Chapman Band, and is called, “Where Would You Go (If You Couldn’t Go Home)?. I’m reposting it because 100% of the profits from your download will go to the American Red Cross and other charities dedicated to rebuilding Joplin, MO.

I’m thankful to not have ever been in the line of a terrible tornado, but recent cities have not been so lucky… like the city of Joplin, Missouri.

According to the City of Joplin, Missouri:

Joplin is located in southwest Missouri in the “four states” region encompassing Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. At the edge of the Ozark Mountain region, Joplin has a current population of 49,024.

On May 22, 2011, a tornado at least three-quarters of a mile wide, terrorized the city of Joplin at 5:30 p.m. on a Sunday. As of June 2, the tornado had taken the lives of 101 people, and injured hundreds. So many people lost everything. So many people and animals were left homeless.

Please take a moment to view the following video, and consider purchasing the song, “Where Would You Go (If You Couldn’t Go Home)?” by The Mark Chapman Band. It’s available now on iTunes, and 100% of the profits will go to the American Red Cross, victims memorial funds, and other charities dedicated to rebuilding Joplin, Mo.

The people and animals of Joplin need our help. Thank you, friends. ๐Ÿ™‚

Getting back to my 2 biological sisters…

Mommy looked at my Countdown on yesterday’s post and thought… I wonder what Bailey’s sisters look like now? Taylor wondered if I would remember them, and if they would remember me.

Adopting a pet is almost like adopting a human baby — sometimes people don’t want to deal with previous siblings. Mommy’s never wondered about previous siblings before, with any of her past doggies, including Nala. I wonder why she’s so curious about my sisters?

All this wondering got mommy searching online at Petfinder.com, to take another look at my and my sisters’ adoption pages there. She said she just wanted to look at their photos again. I don’t know why she had to go there to look at their photos — I have copies of their photos on this page.

And of course, seeing my and my sisters’ adoption pages got mommy on a roll. She and Taylor started wondering how awesome it would be for me to have a reunion with my 2 sisters. Taylor said that I would definitely remember them if I saw them. That got me thinking… and wishing, for a family reunion.

As I sat wondering what I would say to my biological sisters, I wondered what they looked like today. One of them (I’ll call her Millie), looked very similar to me, except her ears were halfway up already at just 3 months old, and she had a very black face. She also didn’t seem to have as long a fur coat as mine… and no flyaway furs around her ears. My family almost adopted her, but she was so jumpy and forward at their first meeting. She didn’t know how to play the adoption game. They were also concerned about a second doggie upsetting Nala. They knew it would be very hard for her to accept any doggie into the family, but a jumping doggie would have the least chance. I played shy and sat quietly and innocently in my mommy’s lap. And when Taylor held me, I looked up at her with my light brown puppy eyes, and captured her heart. I remember daddy telling mommy and Taylor that it was up to them. I had to pull out all my puppy charm and win them over. I guess it worked, huh? ๐Ÿ˜‰

My other sister looked nothing like Millie and me (I’ll call her Desi). Desi also looked like a Shepherd mix, but she looked like she had more collie in her. She was black, with spots of white and tan. She was also a bit smaller than Millie and I were. In fact, I heard that my family went to see Desi first. They thought she had such beautiful coloring, and almost took her home… until the foster mom said that at 3 months old, she was already very independent. She didn’t like being on a leash, and she didn’t care to sit in anyone’s lap. Her non-willingness to be close to my family on that day, worked out for me in the long run. Though, I did hear that if my family didn’t like either me or Millie, they would have probably taken home Desi. They were truly looking to add another doggie to their family that night.

Thinking About RelativesScore for me, ’cause I did all the right things! My family loved me back then and they never regretted their choice. But they’re starting to wonder what my sisters look like now. Mommy wants to know if they have crazy ears like me, or if they love to lick a lot. Do they love running as much as I do? And water… can they not get enough water (drinking and playing in it)?

There are so many questions to be answered. Mommy got the idea to email my foster mom and ask about my 2 sisters. All we know, is that they were both adopted soon after I was. Desi first, and then Millie. I’m sure they have different names now, as I do. Can you believe I was called Blanche for a few weeks? My family said I looked nothing like a Blanche. Teehee!

So as of today, I don’t know what my sisters look like, or even if I’m ever gonna see them again. I won’t lie and say I wouldn’t be excited to see them — it would be great to run around and play rough with other doggies just like me. I have nothing against my furry sister, Nala — I love her. Unfortunately, she lived her life too long without experiencing all the wonders of living with another doggie.

I’ll let you know if mommy ever hears back from my foster mom. I won’t hold my puppy breath, ’cause I know what a long shot it would be to have a family reunion. But it doesn’t hurt to try. It never hurts to try…

Countdown:

Days until I’m 1 year old: 13 days, on June 18!
Days until we blast off into space: 23 days, on June 28!

I want to let you all know that I’ve changed the word verification for comments. I know how frustrating the old reCaptcha phrases were to follow, so I searched really hard to find something that was easy-to-use for everyone.

If you are on a computer (desktop or laptop), all you have to do is drag the image that it tells you to, from the left to the right image. If you are using anything other than a computer (like an iPad, iPhone, or other mobile device), you just need to click on the correct matching image on the left (it will tell you). The image will then automatically appear over the image on the right.

If you are experiencing any problems, please let me know in your comment so I can alert the developers of any issues. I truly hope this image verification is easy for everyone — please let me know your thoughts! Don’t forget I have to personally approve your comment, so it won’t show up right away. ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy Sunday woofs & hugs,

~Bailey
