I’ve said many times that I don’t like riding in cars. My tummy gets all queasy, and I get really nervous. I have to give my mommy credit though, because she keeps dragging me along with her on short car trips. π
Two recent car trips I took with mommy, was to drop something off for Taylor, and then pick her up at the bowling alley. Going there, mommy took just me in the car. Nala wanted to go, but mommy was in a hurry and I gave her my cutest puppy face to reel her in. She fell for it and she put my seat belt harness on. Nala looked at me with envy and pride.
After we said our goodbyes to Nala and daddy, mommy and I went out to the car. She opened the passenger side door, and I began to have that sinking feeling I always get when traveling in a car. I didn’t want to, but I jumped in anyway.
I tried to pretend I wasn’t in a car,
but closing my eyes only worked for a second.
As we drove, I realized that riding in the car wasn’t
as bad as I had remembered it. My tummy was a little nervous,
but I didn’t feel too sick. Maybe this is the start of something good?
There was so much to look at, especially at night.
I was actually a bit sad when we arrived back home.
A couple of hours later, mommy had to go pick up Taylor at the bowling alley. Of course I gave mommy that “I wanna go too” look, and since we had a good experience earlier, she didn’t hesitate in reaching for my seat belt harness.
Again we went out to the car. Mommy opened the door, but I didn’t jump to get in. I don’t know why I was hesitating, but I just stood there with both front paws on the seat. Mommy lifted up my back legs, and I eventually got in.
But this trip was different.
Nala came with us!
Nala LOVES riding in the car, but I’m sure she’s
not happy about having to ride in the back seat now.
But the back seat makes me more nervous, and also,
the seats are smaller than in the front.
It’s been a while since Nala rode in the car. She almost forgot
that there are so many things to see, especially at night!
When we reached the bowling alley, we
parked and waited for Taylor to come out.
I watched all the people as they
walked in and out of the building.
Mommy knows how to entertain herself. Teehee!
Nighttime people watching — it’s my new hobby!
Taylor came out eventually, and we drove home. I am so happy that I didn’t get sick! So is my family. They’re gonna start taking me out in the car more often, now that I haven’t gotten sick on these quick trips. If not getting sick in the car is part of growing up, I’m all for it. π

Woohoo for you, Bailey! That is a BIG step forward! Imagine all the places you’ll see and things you can do now that you are becoming a better car rider…and when you start to get nervous, just take a peek and see how calm Nala is…then look back out the window and think about the joy of traveling all together! We are VERY proud of you.
Don’t you just love those car rides

I keep trying to tell our little girl CarrieAnne that the car isn’t so bad. But she forgets every time that she doesn’t like the car and always, always wants to go for a ride, but then it starts to move and her eyes get as big as a plate! Maybe someday she’ll figure out that it’s okay!
Glad to hear you are enjoying car rides Bailey! Thunder used to get sick all of the time in the car when he was a youngster. But he out grew it and now he loves car rides!
So hap-pee to hear dat you had fun on your short car trips. We luv to go in da car. We went all da way to Michigan and it took us 2 days to get there. Car trips are fun, Bailey!

I’m glad you didn’t get sick! And I’m glad you have a seatbelt harness π
Elka gets sick on longer car rides; in town she’s fine. About 20 minutes seems to be her current limit, on twisty roads. On the highway, she’s fine for longer.
Great job, Bailey. Short rides are best for starters. Maybe with some time you will be able to go for longer trips. Glad you had some success today.

Keep on up with these small trips, and you can work your way up to longer ones! You can do it Bailey!
So glad to hear that you had some good rides at last! I tell you, you will love it in no time. Just take it easy and don’t think about it, your tummy will be fine too.
I love car rides, but I always stay in my crate. My mum thinks it is safer for me.

Excellent Bailey! I get a bit spooked in the car too. Fortunately, my tummy doesn’t get upset. I don’t sit in a seat. I lie flat on the floor and cross my paws that Mom remembers to keep the windows up so the noise from the big trucks isn’t so loud. I really like going places. Just wish there was a different way to get there ;P
Your night peep watching sounds like a fun hobby! π
Waggin at ya,

Good for you Bailey! So glad the ride went better for you. Here’s something that worked for us, if your mommy is interested. Zappa used to get horribly sick when he was a puppy riding in the car, we gave him a capsule of ginger and after a couple of times he was fine. Now he loves to go for a ride.
We gave one capsule (550mg). Zappa was about 25-30 pounds at the time. For your size you could probably take an adult human dose (whatever label says) It may help with the nausea and make your ride a little more pleasant.
Keep on rolling, Bailey!!
