Corner of Doom

Every doggie should love their homes, right? They should love them so much, that they never get bored enough to stop exploring every single inch of it. This includes the backyard, if they’re lucky to have one.

I happen to have a big backyard, and I’m really happy about it. It’s too bad that there’s a pool stuck right in the middle of it, and a large deck, but I can make do with that.

Corner of DoomWhen I go exploring in the backyard, I eventually come across the Corner of Doom. It’s the corner in the far left side of the yard, behind the pool. This corner has some really wild green and purple plant growing there. There’s also some white wire thing behind it, and a chain link fence in between the 2 wooden fences.

Corner of DoomMommy says that when they moved into the house years ago, the chain link fence was the only fence between them and the neighbor next door. There was a big wooden fence behind their house though, as there is now. Mommy also says, that the white wire thing was originally put there to keep Nala in our yard.

A few years ago, the neighbors behind us redid the wooden fence between our houses. But they stopped working on it one day, and left a large gap between our yards… large enough for Nala to get through. Nice going neighbors! Their backyard is not totally fenced in, so it would have been really bad if Nala would have gotten through the space. Good thing mommy and daddy had that white wire thing to protect Nala and keep her in our yard.

Heh, I was just thinking… that white wire thing would NOT have kept ME in!

Corner of DoomGetting back to the Corner of Doom… when I go exploring, I always stop at this corner. Why? Well because it’s so mysterious! That green & purple plant hides a lot of creatures, you know… especially lizards! I can hear them as I sneak up on the plant. They must see me coming, because there is so much rustling. Corner of DoomI bet there could also be snakes hiding in there! Snakes are scary, so I try not to get too close. But sometimes I just can’t help myself, and end up having mommy call me away from there.

Here’s a couple of close ups of the green & purple plant. Mommy did some searching and found out it’s called Rhoeo Spathacea, or “Moses-in-the-Cradle.” It’s a pretty hardy plant, and doesn’t take much for them to grow. Mommy says that they can pop up anywhere. But for some reason, they really love this corner.

Corner of Doom Corner of Doom

Corner of DoomSo that’s the Corner of Doom. I’m not allowed to jump in it, but it still attracts me each and every time. I sniff all around it hoping that one day, something really cool is going to happen there.

Who knows what I might find…

Woofs & hugs,

~Bailey
