Nala, Surgery Morning

Well, the day has finally come. If you’ve just tuned in, my sister Nala is having surgery today. She’s having a tooth removed, and two growths removed (one from her thigh and one from her eyelid).

*UPDATES AT BOTTOM*

Mommy says that this is the very first time that any of her furry ones has had to have surgery, besides being spayed.

Nala, Surgery Morning
Last night, everyone spent lots of extra time cuddling Nala (well they usually cuddle her lots anyway, but last night was extra special).

Nala, Surgery Morning
This morning, mommy got to the hospital about 15 minutes early.
The sun had just started to come up!

Nala, Surgery Morning
Mommy said that Nala knew exactly where she was,
and as usual, she wasn’t happy about it.

Nala, Surgery Morning
So mommy told Nala to look outside the window.
She always enjoys doing that. πŸ™‚

Nala, Surgery Morning
There was so much activity this morning…
Nala had no idea what the day held for her.

Mommy sat in the car about 1/2 hour with Nala before bringing her inside. Mommy said she told her all the good things that were going to happen today, and that she would be back later on to bring her home.

Nala, Surgery Morning
As soon as they got inside, Nala was ready to leave.

Nala, Surgery Morning
But mommy calmed her down, and soon
a very nice girl came to get Nala
and bring her into the back.

Mommy said that they didn’t know what order Nala would be in, but she knows that one of the best doctors is taking care of Nala.

Mommy, daddy, HS and I, would like to thank everyone for their many thoughts & prayers for Nala. I will let you know as soon as mommy hears something. Watch below for updates…

Big woofs & hugs,

~Bailey

*UPDATES*

12:14pm: Mommy just called the hospital and Nala is next in line for surgery. They said we could expect a call from them between 2-3pm.

2:30pm: Dr. called and told mommy that Nala needed 2 smaller teeth on the bottom (left & right center) pulled because of decay. Also, mommy had noticed that Nala had another cracked big tooth on the other side, and the Dr. suggested taking that one out as well. If they didn’t remove it, it could develop an abscess and Nala may need to have another surgery in the near future. So mommy told him to take it out too. Estimated time of pick up is 6pm.

3:30pm: Surgery is over and Nala’s waking up. The Dr. told mommy that he removed the growth from her thigh and another from her right eyelid. She will have to get stitches removed on her follow-up visit. Mommy will have to use an ointment for Nala’s eye when she gets home. The Dr. also removed a carnassial tooth from the top right and one from the bottom left (both had cracked down to the root). He also removed 2 small inscisors, one on each side on the bottom. Pick up time is still set for 6pm tonight! πŸ™‚

6:40pm: Nala’s home! Mommy wasn’t sure what to do with us, because Nala needs to be kept calm and she’s not allowed to jump up on anything. And you know I won’t leave her alone.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s update — I’ll have some pictures. πŸ™‚

Woofs & hugs,

~Bailey

Bailey – I love how you tell your stories! Nala is a very brave girl to have undergone so much poking and prodding, especially of her chompers. It’s good to have her home safe and sound, huh?

Thanks so much! I agree with you there — I can’t imagine having 4 teeth taken out! I LIKE all MY teeth and would miss them too much!

You bet…it really IS good to have her home. πŸ™‚

    Thank you sooo much, everyone!

BabyRocketDog & Hootie, I’m not on blogger — mommy didn’t want me to get lots of spam, so she set my comments so that I have to approve them first. πŸ™‚

It’s so nice to meet you!

Sadly, mommy does think that Nala broke her teeth from chewing bones. She’s 12 years old now, and I guess hard bones aren’t good for doggies when they get older. That’s gonna be awful for me when I get older, ’cause I LOVE chewing on doggie bones!

    Woofs & hugs,

    ~Bailey

It sounds like Nala has had all the surgery a poochie needs for a very long time. Do you know how her teeth got cracked?? We hope it’s not from chewing bones, cuz we chew bones all the time. Thanks for the update!

Oh nos! Surgery mornings! Mom was a BASKET CASE when I went to have my Big Girl Surgery…everytime the phone rang she thought it was the vet. When she dropped me off, she almost busted out in tears. Silly mom.

I put your prize package in the mail today…you can share with Nala if you want! πŸ˜‰

  7. Awww…seeing her tail down makes me sad for her…can’t wait until you get to bring her home!
