Mangoes, Prom & Poop!

We have a huge mango tree, right in our backyard! It’s so tall, that it towers above our house. Funny thing though… mommy and daddy don’t like mangoes. So they usually end up giving them away to friends and family.

Mommy says that the mangoes on our tree get HUGE! Last year, the mangoes were big and there were soooo many of them. Since mommy and daddy don’t like to eat the mangoes, they gather them up when they can, and give the good ones away. Sometimes mangoes would fall and they’d already be half-eaten. That’s because sometimes birds, or even squirrels will help themselves to the mangoes before they fall.

Mommy says the mangoes smell bad when they sit for too long in the sun. Somehow I don’t think the smell would bother me much, and I’m pretty sure that mommy won’t like me running around in the mango mess. She also said that the mangoes are heavy and hard. So when the mangoes do grow, she’d have to watch Nala and me extra careful when we’re under the tree. She doesn’t want us to get hit in the head with a mango!

Here’s what our mango tree looked like last year.

Mangoes, Prom & Poop
Look at the size of those mangoes! I can see why mommy
would worry about mangoes falling from the tree!

Mangoes, Prom & Poop
Mommy took this picture tonight…can you see
the little mangoes on the tree?

When I was outside playing earlier today, I came across some little things in the grass. They were small and round, and some were a reddish color, some were a greenish color, and some had a mixture of both red and green. I sniffed at one for a while, and mommy came over to see what I was fussing over. She picked up the thing, and said “Wow.” Wow? What’s up, mommy? “Looks like we may not get many mangoes this year, if any at all,” she said. Mangoes don’t grow big every year, so if the little mangoes are already falling off the tree this year, we may not get any big ones.

Getting back to the things I found in the yard… can you guess what they are?

Mangoes, Prom & Poop
They’re baby mangoes! They’re so small, and they’re
already falling from the tree. Yay!
Something new for me to chase after!

I’m kinda sad that there may not be any big mangoes this year, but in the meantime, I’m enjoying chasing after the little ones that fall. I’ll have all year to prepare myself for next year’s growth. πŸ™‚

Did you know that it’s soon not only mango season, but it’s almost prom season as well? It’s the time when high school kids go out to a school dance with their friends, and have lots of fun! Sadly, mommy says that sometimes kids do things that they’re not supposed to, like drink alcohol. And sometimes they even drink and drive, which makes the roads very dangerous for themselves and everyone else, including doggies who like to ride with their families in the car.

One local school is taking things to the extreme this year. They’ve put a crashed car right on the school grounds, so kids could see the actual damage that could occur in a car crash. They’ve also put up a lot of signs, and have talked to the kids about the dangers of drinking and driving.

Mangoes, Prom & Poop
A crashed car is pretty scary to look at, isn’t it?

Mangoes, Prom & Poop
If you have a child who is going to a prom this year, please be sure
and talk to them about the dangers of drinking and driving.
We all want them to keep safe!

If you would like to learn more about how you can help teach your children about the dangers of drinking and driving (especially on prom night), I’ve found some really good links for you. I hope they help. πŸ™‚

And now onto the poop portion of my post. πŸ˜‰

My friend Gus had a post today about poop! You read it right. Poop. His mommy talked about the place where she gets his poop bags, and mentioned an awesome contest she was holding (more on that in a minute). Since Gus’ mommy shared what she uses for poop picker uppers, I thought I would share what my mommy uses. πŸ™‚

Mangoes, Prom & Poop
Mommy buys these bags in bulk — they come in rolls.

Mangoes, Prom & Poop
She puts a roll inside this little dog bone-shaped plastic container,
and attaches it to my leash. This way, it’s always there
when mommy needs to use it.

Mommy not only uses poop bags on walks with Nala and me, she uses them in our own backyard. No one likes to step in poop, not even mommy. That’s why she has to keep a big supply on hand — Nala and I like to poop!

Now, about that contest over at Gus’ blog…

Gus’ mommy uses poop bags from PoopBags.com. They were so nice to offer readers of Gus’ blog, up to $40 worth of PoopBags.com merchandise. How cool is that? We think it’s way cool. πŸ™‚

PoopBags.com doesn’t only offer poop bags, as you may think. They have treats, toys and beds for doggies, as well as stuffz for kitties. To enter Gus’ contest, visit PoopBags.com to look at what they offer, then visit Gus’ blog to find out how to enter their contest. I’m sure gonna!

Speaking of Gus and contests… Gus is in his own contest, and it ends tomorrow! For just one last time, if you have a moment, could you please vote for him? If you sort by popularity, you’ll see him on the first page (he’s from San Antonio). I would really appreciate it, and I know Gus and his family would too!

Woofs & hugs everyone,

~Bailey

Those baby mangoes remind me of my time living in Miami. There was beautiful fruit all over FL. And banana spiders, too. YUK! But that’s ok, because we rescued Arwen from FL πŸ™‚

  2. Hey Bailey,

Mum says she wishes we lived nearby cos she’s got a juicer and loves fresh fruit to juice! πŸ™‚ We really like your post about safe driving, the more people spreading that message the better πŸ™‚

Don’t worry, my Mum can’t watch that Marley film either, she started the book, but couldn’t finish it….

Hope you’re having a great day,

    Your pal Snoopy πŸ™‚

Those are the same bags we use! They say they are guarranteed not to break. Mommy wonders what you are supposed to do if they do? Ever thought of that? How do they honor the guarantee???

  5. Maybe it’s not so bad the mangoes are small this year. We would hate to see a big one fall on your head! Very interesting post today. Enjoyed it!

How lucky you have a huge mango tree right in your backyard! They would make tasty treats! OH man, that car would give those kids a scare that’s for sure. I hope they will think twice about drinking & driving. Those poop bags are very fancy! Hoomie Melissa just uses regular plastic bags which she gets from the store. They’re cheap & very easy to tie. I’ll be heading to Gus’s blog right after this!

  7. Melissa says:

Mangoes, huh? Did you read or watch “Marley and Me?”

Mommy hasn’t watched that movie, and I don’t think she’s read the book either. She said it is supposed to be a sad story. Are there mangoes in it?

      Woofs & hugs,
