I’ve never heard of a flea before last night, but by the way my family talks about them, I don’t think they’re nice little creatures. It’s a good thing I don’t have them!
Why do doggies get fleas? Well, I know why NALA got fleas! Mommy forgot to give her her topical flea medicine. I didn’t get fleas… know why? Nala and I get different flea medicines, and I had already gotten mine. How lucky am I?! If mommy didn’t give me mine, I might have caught fleas from Nala, or gotten them from outside too!
You would have thought that mommy would have learned her lesson after her May, 2010 incident with fleas. She was late giving Nala her flea prevention medicine back then too.
Poor Nala… she ended up getting a little haircut (which mommy said she usually gives her in the summers anyway), and she had to take a pill called, Capstar… AND get her topical flea prevention medicine. Mommy also had to spray all over the carpet and furniture.
Look at these glove pictures taken before Nala’s surgery… You can see how bad her right eye was then, and how much better it looks today!

Nala hates the rubber glove that
mommy uses to give her the flea medicine.
She hates the very sight of it.

She hates when the glove touches her.

I don’t know why she’s so scared of the glove.

She’d really rather not touch it… ever.
These pics were taken last night. You can see how good Nala’s right eye looks. π

After discovering the fleas, mommy gave Nala a haircut.
Mommy and MT couldn’t believe how small Nala looked.
They said that she shrunk!? Is this possible?
They said that she used to be a lot bigger than this!

No matter how small, no matter how short her fur…
we still think Nala’s cute. π
Don’t worry, Nala. We’ll get rid of those darn fleas!
I guess this post could be a good reminder for you to make sure your family takes care of you! Make sure they always use flea prevention.
Of course I welcome your tips on getting rid of fleas fast! Mommy vacuumed and sprayed the house with flea stuff from our vet, and said that it worked perfectly last year. Now I’m just gonna keep my paws crossed…

Oh no! The dreaded “F” word!!!
So sorry you had to do all this – poor Nala looks miserable that close to the bug glove π
But VERY cute with her eye fixed and new stylish haircut!
Mommy said she’s going to try giving Nala a pill for next month’s treatment, so hopefully it will be less traumatic for her. I’ll let you know how things go! π
she looks cute with her haircut π

Poor Nala! I know how itchy and awful fleas can be. When I was very little momma never treated me for fleas because they are unusually at our altitude especially in urban areas, but I got them when we went to Los Angeles and stayed at a house with a big overgrown jungle of a backyard. The entire trip home, momma picked them off of me and flea bathed me and it was scary! Nala does look very summery chic and her eye is healing nicely.
Hey, maybe you can use your dad’s telescope to look toward Albuquerque and I can use momma’s to look your way and we can see each other!
Mommy give me my flea/tick stuff on the first of the month–every month– along with my heart guard. It is kind of a ritual with her.
By the Way, I think Nala looks cute too!!! Great job with the hair cut Mommy and MT!
Puppy kisses,
Tanner
Hey Bailey,
Wow, you sure are lucky that you didn’t get those fleas – a great reminder that I’m due my flea medication today…….though I really don’t like getting it, Mum sneaks up on me with it, I don’t like how the liquid feels on my skin, sometimes I can tell when she’s gonna do it, even if she’s trying to hide it in her hand and I get all jumpy – but I’m sure it’s better than having fleas jumping all over me, right?!
Btw, tell Nala she looks super cute with short hair too….:)
Your pal Snoopy π
Ugh fleas. I’ve never had that problem since our flea med is also our heartworm med and we HAVE to have that! But one time, when mom was in college she got ATTACKED by fleas! They couldn’t do anything, so finally they flea bombed the house over a weekend. It worked, it worked so well they didn’t have any buggies for like a year!!
And yes, Nala is adorable!! Her eye looks fabu!
Sorry about the flea problem. I hope that flea preventative will get rid of them fast. We had major tick problem about 1 1/2 years ago & the whole house had to get fumigated. About 4 years ago, me & Chloe were INFESTED in ticks after playing at a waterfall. Hoomie Melissa found atleast 30 ticks on Chloe & 20 something on me. The male & female ticks were breeding together too. It was SO gross! We have not had ANY tick & flea problem for more than 1 year already & that’s why hoomie Melissa does not bother applying any tick preventative on us. If she finds any ticks on us, then she will apply the tick medicine on all of us.
Me thinks Nala looks atleast 3 years younger after a haircut! And yes, her eye looks great!
OOOh, I hope we don’t have to get fumigated. That sounds scary!! Ticks sound scary too! Ahhh! There are so many scary creepy crawlies!
