Princess Nala

Nala is my furry sister. She’ll be 13 years old in 3 months. She’s the princess in the family.

Before I tell you more about Nala, my mommy wanted me to tell all of you to be extra careful in locking up your house, and if you know someone who doesn’t have a dog or two (or three, etc.), tell them they should get some (and some “Beware of Dog” signs)! Besides offering lotsa love, as us doggies do, we offer a measure of protection. Most often than not, we will try to protect what’s ours.

You see, yesterday morning two men went across the street to our neighbor’s house. I could barely make out who they were because our tree was in the way. But mommy said one of them was a policeman! She started to get nervous, ’cause she didn’t know what the trouble was. She thought for a moment that her neighbor was in trouble, ’cause she just came home from the hospital, but the men weren’t running so it couldn’t be serious.

Princess Nala
Blurred for privacy. πŸ˜‰

It was when they finished at our neighbor’s house, and started walking toward ours, that mommy started to get nervous. It turns out that our neighbor, just two houses away, was robbed yesterday morning! It’s so terrible what horrible people there are in this world. The policeman asked mommy if she had seen anything, but she didn’t remember anything out of the ordinary. Nala and I bark at lots of stuff passing by our window. If they didn’t come in our direction, we wouldn’t have seen anything.

Even though mommy isn’t sitting by the window accounting for everything going on out there, it made her realize how much she doesn’t pay attention to cars passing by. She does pay attention to people walking by, but that’s ’cause Nala and I always let her know they’re there.

This is a good time to remind everyone to lock up and/or hide your valuables, and to make sure all of your locks are in working order. Never leave anything unlocked, and get some “Beware of Dog” signs. Trim any bushes that are in front of your house, so that they don’t offer a hiding place for someone trying to break in. If you don’t have an alarm system (or even if you do), get a doggie! We’re as good as, if not better than, an alarm system.

I hope they catch who did this bad thing! Shame on them!

A Commentathon to help some friends…

Back to Princess Nala…

Nala was almost 12 years old when I came to live with our family in September, 2010. From the start, my family knew I was different than Nala. Even Nala knew I was different. At just 3 months old I was crazy, rambunctious, and showed signs of being a tomboy. At 14 months old, I haven’t changed.

There are a few things that I do that Nala doesn’t do… like playing in water and doing crazy zoomies every night throughout the house.

Then there are a few things that Nala does that I won’t do… like enjoying car rides and getting haircuts.

Nala gets haircuts every few months or so, ’cause she doesn’t like to be brushed. And since she doesn’t get brushed too often, she starts to look unkempt. So mommy gets out the doggie clippers and gives her a haircut.

Nala used to not mind getting a haircut. She used to stand there as mommy trimmed her fur, and then cut her toenails. But as she’s gotten older, she’s started to dislike a lot of things. One of those things is getting a haircut!

Princess Nala
Mommy prefers to give Nala a haircut outside, but
it’s just too hot out there!

Princess Nala
Mommy had to talk in an extra high voice to get
Nala excited about her haircut. I think I was more
excited than Nala was! I love watching. Teehee!

Princess Nala
Nala even did some tricks to bribe mommy into
postponing her haircut, but it didn’t work.

Princess Nala
Yeah, I’m on a leash. I couldn’t keep myself away from
Nala. That trimmer thing makes a funny vibrating noise!

Princess Nala
Here’s Nala after her haircut — her fur is sooo soft when it’s cut!
Nala thought she was done.

Princess Nala
Then she found out that mommy wanted to trim her nails, too!

That nail trimmer thing really fascinates me! A few months ago I reviewed Pedi Paws, which is what mommy uses to trim Nala’s nails. Nala’s not a digger, so her nails grow long and we hear them tapping on the floor as she walks throughout the house. I don’t have a problem with that… I’m a digger. I prefer to dig in the dirt, but I’m happy to dig in the floor too. Digging helps my nails stay at a manageable length. πŸ˜‰

Princess Nala
I thought mommy was going to put the nail thing away,
but then she called me over and tried to get my paws!

Mommy thought that since I was so curious, she wanted to show me what it was like to have my nails trimmed.

Princess Nala
But there was no way I was letting MY paws get near that thing!

Princess Nala
I’m definitely no princess!

Princess Nala
That thing tickles!

Princess Nala
Mommy tried, but I put up a good fight!

Princess Nala
What I REALLY wanted to do, was LICK the nail trimmer!

Princess Nala
Mommy eventually gave up. Oh silly mommy…
maybe next time we’ll try the nail trimmer on YOU!

Great post! Not only a very good reminder that we should all be more careful, but loved the Nala story. Read in an earlier comment that you may post some of her puppy pictures. Please do!!

And… okay… the verification thing… Drag the knife to the bathroom?! Totally creepy!

Thanks for stopping by to visit the 2 brown dawgs. πŸ™‚

Nala looks really good for her age, trimmed or not!

Scary about your neighbor being robbed. Stay safe.

  3. Mr. Pip says:

Thanks so much for spreading the word about the Comment-a-thon!!! I had no idea that Nala was almost 13! I am 13, going on 14! How wonderful that your family adopted her when she was 12. Thanks for sharing Nala with us!

    Your pal, Pip

Awww, you’re very welcome. πŸ™‚ Nala’s been living with our family since she was 2 months old! I’m gonna have to put her baby pictures up, ’cause she was so darn cute! I think it’s awesome that you and Nala are the same age, though! πŸ™‚

  4. Hey Bailey,

That was a lucky escape for you, no hair messing nonsense and no nail trimming, I guess that’s that the price Nala has to pay for being a princess! Tee hee

Glad you’re doing a great job of guarding your house from the bad people! πŸ™‚

    Have fun,

    Your pal Snoopy πŸ™‚

It is scary when something happens in the neighborhood where you live and it seems that these hard economic times are making people desperate. Please stay safe.

Nala is a beautiful white Dog and of course she is a princess, all of us Eskies are! We are so happy that you two get along so well.

We bought one of those nail trimmer thingies based on your review and it works very well. Even Nuka lets dad trim her now!

  6. That nail thingy looks cool. I want to eat one too, Bailey!!! Princess Nala sure looks super after her cut!! πŸ™‚

  7. Sophie says:

    Eep! What a scary reminder!

Nala is such a pretty girl, and you’re so silly, Bailey! πŸ™‚

  8. Great reminder Baiiley! We know that our postman always thought I was a big scary dog until he met me (I have a deep big dog bark, even though I’m little). Even though if someone broke in the worst we would do is kiss them until they were soggy, the Mama feels better knowing that we would create such a ruck as doing so that it would be bound to attract attention from the neighbors.

    Happy Almost Birthday Nala!

  9. Kari says:

Oh that is so scary about the robbers!

  10. That is very scary about your poor neighbor. We aren’t much into barking, but Mom says a lot of people think we are wolves and that alone is scary. BOL

Nala is just such a pretty girl and definitely a princess. Nala, you can be a princess-in-waiting so you can enjoy being a puppy and doing mischievous things for a while. We call Ciara a Princess but she has a long way to go before she really qualifies:)

Nala is very pretty, Our Zira will be 13 in December so they are the same page.

Its terrible about your neighbors. We were robbed when we moved to our house, four years ago, we were out walking our dogs. At least we know no one will come in when the dogs are home!

  12. Benny & Lily says:

Yikes scary stuff. You always have to be alert to protect your house. That pedi thing is a monster in disguise
