Hi! I’m Bailey & Nala’s Mom, JM! Bailey is so kind to give me some space on her site, so I could share my art with you.
****
UPDATE: I’ve started drawing again! I just finished 10 handmade centerpieces for a non-profit organization… so I’m a bit behind on some drawings. Send me an email if you’d like to discuss having a drawing done for you or someone you love. ![]()
****
So who is Drawing Mom, you may ask? Well, I’m just a mom who loves to draw. I’ve loved to draw as long as I can remember. And now, I’m just trying to make a little extra money from something I love to do. <3
I am currently offering 5"x7" and 8"x10" commissioned colored pencil drawings of your furry ones (See below for pricing information.). When I am working on a piece, I devote my full attention to it. Working on one piece at a time allows me to concentrate on it fully, and many times lets me complete it sooner than if I were to work on a multiple pieces at once.
–> If you’ve been brought to this page because I’ve drawn your furry one as an in-between drawing, you have the opportunity to purchase it. Just contact me here.
News…
I have a Facebook page… Yay!
The photos of my drawings are slightly larger than they are on this page, and there are some in-progress drawings as well. If you’d like to connect with me, my Facebook page is a great place to visit! You can also connect with me on Flickr, Tumblr, and on Instagram. <3
How I draw…
There have been some questions as to how I produce a drawing. Some bloggers have questioned whether I use a computer or other technology to generate an image. I will tell you that none of that is involved in my drawings (I wouldn’t even know where to begin). My process includes picking up a pencil, sketching an image on white, heavyweight paper (approx. 150lb), coloring it in with colored pencils, and adding some highlights with white or black acrylic paint. Pure and simple art. You can see a sample of how my drawings progress, here. You can also see some videos of my drawings here.
The best photos allow me to produce a drawing that’s true to likeness…
At this time I am only drawing pets; no backgrounds or people. Your photo should be clear, show facial details (need to be able to see eye color — no red eye, blurriness, or pupil reflections), and should not include too many shadows. The eyes are one of the most important features, and allow me to make a connection with your pet. Clear photos allow me to capture their true soul.
If your pet has any special markings or colorings I should know about (freckles, fur coloring or patterns, etc.), please let me know. The more I know about your furry one, the better I’ll be able to convey his/her uniqueness in my drawing. Feel free to submit more than one photo.
My drawing style…
My style of drawing has changed widely over the years, but for the past few years I have concentrated on drawing in colored pencils (with some added white acrylic for highlights). I guess you could call me a “Pencil Painter,” because I paint with pencils. They’re easy to work with, never dry out, allow quick changes, and I think they are an enjoyable medium to create in.

“In between” drawings (If I’ve drawn your furry or feathered one…)
…and it was not a commissioned drawing, it was probably what I call an “in between” drawing. I do pet portraits on commission. In between commissions, I sometimes draw friends for my own portfolio (my friends’ furry ones, Bailey’s friends, and pets of friends who I’ve met through Instagram and other various outlets). I am always on the look-out for that in between drawing… When I complete that drawing, I post the digital drawing online (on this page, on my Facebook page, on Tumblr, and on Instagram). I also allow the subject’s owner to purchase the original drawing if they would like (contact me).
I no longer keep a list for in between drawings, and I’m sorry to say that sending photos doesn’t always guarantee that your furry one will be chosen. I actually don’t know which one will come next until I sit down to draw… so it will be a surprise for everyone.
The only way to guarantee that your furry or feathered baby will be drawn, is to order a custom pet portrait. Send me an email and let’s see some photos!
If you’d like me to consider drawing your pet as an in between drawing, there are a few things you can do…
- Make sure you follow me on Instagram. You can either click here or here. Then tag me so I can look at your furry one.
- Like my DrawingMom page on Facebook if you like my art… though not necessary.
- Make sure your photos are large and sharp. If you don’t like to upload photos that are large and of high resolution, you can always send me a message here — I will send you a reply so you could attach photos with your reply back.
- Eyes are very important. I prefer to draw pets that are looking at the camera, but it’s not always necessary. But the eyes must be clear, in focus, and have no red eye or glare. I need to see the true color.
If I’ve drawn your furry one and you like it, I would love for you to share it so others can see it. I would also love to include a testimonial here (you could leave a comment wherever I have posted the drawing online — I will copy your feedback and place it here).
Thank you so much! <3
The following drawings were done in colored pencils & white acrylic for highlights and white doggies (unless specified), and vary in size.
*I added a new slideshow feature for viewing my drawings. To advance each image, you can either click on each one, or click on the carousel of thumbnails below the featured image. Newest drawings are at the beginning.*
Ordering, Payment & Shipping…
At this time, only pet portraits are available (no human peeps, please). Please send me an email via this contact page, and include your name and at least 2-3 clear, close-up photos of your pet(s) for portrait drawings (no bodies). Large photos work best, and photos that show details in the face (especially the eyes) will allow me to fully capture your pet’s spirit.
I will then send you an email reply with details, and send an invoice via PayPal for a 50% non-refundable deposit to start work. Once the deposit is received, I will send you an email with a tentative completion date for your drawing (time frame depends on work load, but usually is within 2 weeks). Once your drawing is completed, I will send you a digital image to preview via email, and a second and final invoice via PayPal for final payment.
How long does it take…
Well that really depends on a few things. I will say that at this point, you shouldn’t have to wait more than 2 weeks to receive an email with a photograph of your drawing. Sometimes I do complete drawings overnight… I guess it’ll be a surprise for both of us!
Cost…
Currently, all commissioned drawings are done in colored pencils (with acrylic paint for highlights) on heavyweight drawing paper (100-150lb), in your choice of 5×7 or 8×10. Please keep in mind that there is a limited amount of space on each sheet. The black borders you see around the drawings above, and the ‘DrawingMom.com’ or ‘BaileyBeGood.com’ logo, will not be on your drawing. Drawings are shipped signed, unmatted, and unframed.
8×10: Portrait Drawing of 1 pet (no body, no background)… Contact for current pricing. (+ FREE Shipping to US & Canada addresses only. International shipping fees are additional and will be calculated per order.)
One additional pet in the same portrait (2 pets max)… Contact for current pricing.
5×7: Portrait Drawing of 1 pet (no body, no background)… Contact for current pricing (+ FREE Shipping to US & Canada addresses only. International shipping fees are additional and will be calculated per order.)
Due to its small size, 5x7s will include just 1 pet.
Discounts on multiple orders. Other sizes considered upon request. Please contact me with details.
Return Policy…
After your drawing is completed, I will send you a digital photograph for your viewing. Pending any minor adjustments (within reason, such as adding freckles), and invoice balance, your artwork will be shipped via the USPS, with delivery confirmation. If you would like to insure your drawing for shipping, please let me know — insurance is additional. Due to the detailed work and time involved, there are no refunds on custom artwork.
Copyright…
I, as the artist, hold the copyright to each commissioned drawing, and all rights for reproducing each drawing, for any purpose, including commercial use. All commissioned artwork includes one drawing and permission for purchaser to reproduce drawing only for personal, non-commercial use. Copies of all commissioned artwork may be made available for sale to the public.
If you would like to have your pet’s portrait done, please contact me and let me know. I would love to see photos of your furry one.
I look forward to hearing from you!
