Sometimes one just isn’t enough. Sometimes, ya gotta have another.
Our first gate was put in at the end of last year, soon after I arrived.

I don’t remember life before this front gate…
I was just a little puppy.
But I do remember life before the inside gate.
When the house 2 doors down was robbed, mommy decided it was time to start leaving me out of my crate when they went away. Nala’s always had the run of the house when everyone was away, but me… I used to have to sit in my crate. I didn’t mind it though — my crate was a safe place to be.
When I began staying out when everyone was away, mommy started leaving Nala inside my crate. They were afraid that I would hurt her accidentally with my paw, or my tail. I admit I’m very playful, and I don’t blame them one bit for doing that.
But during The Big Thing recently, mommy and daddy moved the front gate to the inside hallway to keep both Nala and me away from the work area. With the gate being in this new position, mommy and daddy discovered that they could leave Nala on the side with the bedrooms, and leave me in rest of the house. This seemed to work out well, so they ordered a narrower version of the front gate, and installed it in the inside hallway.

The good thing about the twin gates, is that now neither Nala
or me have to stay in the crate when the family’s away.
Nala loves having more room to move around, and she enjoys having access to mommy and daddy’s bed. I don’t mind it as much, ’cause I didn’t like seeing Nala in a crate — it just wasn’t natural!
And… since there won’t be a crate in the dining room anymore, this means more room to play!
Ya can’t go wrong with more play space. 😉
I thought I would add links to both gates, in case anyone was interested. They’re both available on Amazon.com. (Wide gate; Narrow gate). 🙂
Do any of you still need to stay in a crate when your family’s away?

Nice gates! I’m always on the lookout for good ones. 🙂
I really like those gates! I have been wanting a few of those for our house! we have one of the older style gates and the Newfs just knock them over!
I almost NEVER have to stay home alone.. butt when it does happen… I get the whole place.
Fozzie lived in a crate for a long while before we trusted him enough to leave him outside. I felt awful crating him because he’s such a big, active guy–and so proud of him now that we can leave him for long days alone with no trouble.
Now, its little squirt Sandy who stays in the crate–no telling what a 10-month-old pit bull will do if left to her own devices!
Lightning still stays in a crate at night and when the humans are away. But he is OK with it. We have gates in lots of places here both because of us pups and the little bipeds. Ours aren’t as nice looking as yours – those are very nice gates.
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
We let Finn roam too when we are out of the house – she probably has a little too much freedom, but I would rather her have the opportunity to leave if something horrible was happening too!
