Switcherooo!

OK… so the floor is new and the furniture hasn’t been put back yet… I could deal with that. But switching around Nala’s and my food & water bowls? I’m not so sure about this!

A few years ago, Nala had eye surgery and had to wear the cone of shame. She wasn’t able to reach her food and water bowls that were on the floor. So mommy bought Nala food and water bowls that were raised up.

Switcherooo!
These are Nala’s bowls that she’s had for a few years.
They used to sit near the sliding doors to the backyard.

When I came to live here, mommy bought me food and water bowls and put them directly on the floor. When my water bowl was empty, I used to put my foot in it and tap really loud. Sometimes I even turned over my bowl and watched it roll across the floor. That sure got my family’s attention really quick, and they always gave me more water.

But just last week, something changed. Mommy thought that I should have Nala’s bowls and Nala should have my bowls. I know she had reason to make the change — I eat more than Nala and she had the bigger bowls. But this switch is very confusing, especially to Nala!

Switcherooo!
These were my bowls until last week’s switcheroo.

Switcherooo!
Now I have Nala’s tall bowls…

Switcherooo!
And Nala has my short ones!

I actually don’t mind the higher bowls. Although I can’t lay down and drink my water anymore, and I’m sad that I can no longer put my foot in my bowl to alert my family that I’m out of water. I have managed to get their attention by making hrumphing noises and staring them down (usually my mommy first). These bowls are easier to eat from, and I can reach my food faster! Teehee!

But poor Nala! I think she’s very confused! She knows that her food and water bowls are next to the sliding door, but I’ve caught her many times starting to eat MY food in MY bowl, and she’s even drank my water! When mommy catches her, she quickly reminds her where her bowls are. But I still catch her drinking my water and eating my food!

Mommy says she’s going to get Nala another set of new taller bowls. Hopefully, that will stop the confusion! If not, I’m just gonna have to put my bowls under lock and key! πŸ˜‰

LOL I can see why that would be very confusing. We have several bowls for food and the 2 brown dawgs share one water bowl. They are used to the place we put their bowl rather than the bowl itself. Of course now Thunder has a “special” bowl since his bloat surgery, so that is out the window. πŸ™‚

Poor Nala is confused because what was “her” bowls suddenly are yours, Bailey. She doesn’t understand mommy’s logic just that “her” bowls have been given away. Sometimes changes in old established routines are very hard…maybe NEW bowls for her might be the answer.

  3. HELLO MY FRIENDS!! To start THANKS for thinking of us and give us the award!!! It’ll really help with a post when my mind is foggy and I don’t know what to write about, which happens a lot!!! πŸ™‚

Second, I know what you mean about the bowls–We actually have the exact same ones (from Fosters & Smith, right?) and when I changed stands to accommodate our previous foster girl Riley, the dogs got all confused and didn’t know what to do–So just know that it happens, even to the best of us, I mean YOU!! πŸ™‚

  4. Hi Y’all,

  5. We can see where all of thi might be a bit confusing for both of you, but we pups do adjust well and quickly. It should all be fine soon. And if not, then we vote for new bowls for both of you -BOL.

Hmmm, humans sure like to cause a lot of confusion, don’t they? But I am sure they have their good reasons…^_^

  13. Poor Nala! I would be confused too! The Mama changed our bowls once and I refused to eat out of Felix’s bowls and instead I just layed down and cried. It was awful!
