Soooo… A couple of months ago, my mommy found out that I had gained a lot of weight… which was probably one of the reasons that I developed hip dysplasia.
Nala Update…
Before I continue with this post, I wanted to share that my furry sister, Nala, hasn’t been feeling well the past few days. She paces for hours on end, and has been having trouble walking and sitting. She’s going to be 15 in November, so she’s an old girl. She usually sleeps in the room with daddy when he goes in, but last night she did not want to sit for anything and did not want to go into the room.
Mommy and Taylor were a little worried — they didn’t want her to be in any pain, but they thought that her arthritis must have been bothering her.

I didn’t want to tell them that I was worried too.

Mommy told Nala to sleep in my bed,
but she didn’t stay there for long.

Mommy gave her some arthritis medicine, and Nala
eventually slept on the carpet next to the couch.

We were thankful that she was eventually able to sleep.
Please keep Nala in your thoughts, friends. <3 Now for Monday Mischief: Exercising!
The doctor said that I needed to lose about 10 lbs. Ten pounds?! That’s a lot! So, she switched me to a much better brand of doggie food, and that’s pretty much all I’ve been eating for the past month.
When my family went away overnight a week ago, they left Nala and me at our doggie camp. They weighed me there. *Sigh* Would you believe that after all that mommy’s done to help me lose weight, I ended up GAINING almost 5 lbs?! How is this even possible?
Mommy knew she had to do something drastic, ’cause she hated that I was carrying around all this extra weight. So she started me on an exercise program.
Right now, she’s trying running with me. I guess my breed isn’t meant to be hanging around most of the time. We go jogging a few times during the day. Most of the time it’s around the backyard and the pool, but we get in a good 4-6 laps each time (that’s all that mommy can do in one shot!). She said that if there was a way she could get me to exercise on my own, she would do it. Like I’d wanna exercise on my own. Heh.
As of this post, I’ve been exercising for more than 2 weeks, but minus about a week due to RAIN!). If exercising doesn’t help me lose weight, I’m going to have to try another doggie food.
Have I lost any weight? I’ll let you know in a future post after I go for a weigh-in. ๐
A few days ago, my mommy and daddy took me for a long walk around the neighborhood.

We have a canal where we live,
and there are fish in there!

There are also a few little walkways to the river.

And some sand. It’s like a little beach.

The last time mommy went with daddy and me,
I didn’t like the water too much. But…

What? Is that ME swimming?

YEAH, that’s ME swimming!! Wooo!

This is another little beach.

I swam in there too!

The water felt really nice.

I shook a lot after I got out.

On the walk home, I spotted something in a tree.

SQUIRRRREL!

Then we started our walk home.

That was a lot of exercise for me.

My bed is looking really good right now.

I plopped down as soon as I got home.
I call this a perfect day. <3

Sending extra strong White Dog positive energy to Nala. Eskies live to be 20 lots of times so don’t count your sister out of the game. Ask your vet about Alenza which our Quinn is on. It is a supplement for older dogs with pain and since he has been on it we have been able to take him off of rimadyl and tramadol. Dogs can also take melatonin as a sleep aid. Quinn gets 3mg and he weighs about 35lbs. We tried cutting them in half but he needed a bit more, but you might try that as well. The other thing that has helped all of the WDA (all seniors) is a night light in the room where they sleep. It makes them feel more secure and confident as they naturally move around in the night.
Bailey, walkies is the BEST exercise. YoYoMa lost 4lbs that way. Do you eat veggies? Perhaps cutting back a little on the kibble and adding green beans, spinach, broccoli or pumpkin will still fill you up, add some vitamins AND be fewer calories.
WDA — Thank you so very much! Mommy says thank you, too! You were one of our very first friends in Blogville, and we appreciate all of your helpful advice over these past few years. I will tell mommy what you suggested here, and hope Nala does live many more years. She actually was a bit better today, so we are hopeful! Huggies! <3
We have our Paws Crossed fur Nala. Poor girrrrl.
Sweet Nala – you know we are wondering if she is going blind. My sister had a little dog he lived to 20 years and 1 day – but when he was about 18 he went through something similar to what you describe with Nala – and it was because he was going blind and was quite dis orientated to begin with . It took him a couple of month to settle down and was able to figure out here things were – we just had to remember to never move things.
Mommy says that so far it looks like Nala could still see. She can still follow things still, and she isn’t yet bumping into things. The last time she saw the doctor, he said her eyes were actually not too bad, so that’s good news. This will be the second day on the joint medicine, so maybe she will be feeling better. ๐
Oh Bailey, we sure feel your pain! We know a little about being over weight too. But like you said, the weather has been pure rain here in NY so forget about going outside anywhere. We’re glad that you enjoy swimming now bcuz that is good for you. Maybe some more of that will do the trick. Wishing you luck on your diet.
We feel so bad for Nala. Poor girl couldn’t get comfy and must have been miserable. Good thing the pill worked and she was able to get some sleep. Take some naps today Nala, you deserve it!
Hugs,
Lily Belle & Muffin
