Backyard Monster

There I was… enjoying the peacefulness of my backyard…

It’s not always peaceful… there are doggies barking, squirrels hissing, birds squawking… you get the idea. But today it really was peaceful.

Monster Lizard

I walked around with my nose up in the air, smelling all the wonderful, flowery smells. Maybe there was mango smell in there, I’m not sure, since I’ve never smelled a mango before.

Monster Lizard

Anyway, I found a nice spot to lounge on the deck, and I continued to enjoy the beautiful weather. It wasn’t too hot, and it wasn’t too cold.

It was juuuust right. πŸ™‚

Monster Lizard

All of a sudden, I spotted something out of the corner of my eye. I moved my head a little to the right, and eyed just in front of my turtle pool.

Something moved. It was brownish in color, had a long tail, and was very fast!

Monster Lizard

I watched it scurry across the deck. I ran after it to see if I could catch it!

It’s too bad daddy hasn’t finished redoing the deck yet — I’d be able to climb up the stairs and have a better view. Well, that’s what I’d like to do. Mommy wouldn’t let me go up on the deck alone, anyway.

Monster Lizard

Since I couldn’t go up on top of the deck, I jumped up on the side to see if I could see underneath the deck. Hmmm… I can’t see anything from this side.

Monster Lizard
Can you see it? There it is!

Monster Lizard
Here’s a closer look! Can you see it now?

Monster Lizard
I jumped up on the other side of the deck, and saw it.

Monster Lizard!

This lizard was the BIGGEST lizard I’ve ever seen! I usually see the tiny lizards — so many of them live underneath the deck. I’ve actually caught a few of those. Heh, heh. But this one… this one was a monster!

Monster Lizard

Isn’t he precious? NOT!

Mommy says she’s seen this lizard a lot. I would love to chase this boy (or girl) lizard, but he just doesn’t come out often. He’s really good at hiding.

I’ll have to keep my eyes open for the monster. Maybe one day I’ll see him and give him a good chase. πŸ™‚

Woofs & hugs,

~Bailey

  2. Ahhh…lizards! I know they eat bugs, which is a good thing, but they weird me out! Gus LOVES to chase them on our patio. πŸ˜€

    • bailey says:

I’ve heard they eat bugs, but they must not be doing such a good job… ’cause there are still lots of bugs around!

I think this is a really big Anole. I remember these from when we lived in Miami. They’re pretty cool critters! They eat bugs and anything that eats bugs is alright in my book πŸ˜‰

Bailey – I LOVE your ears. They are so adorable, they make me smile whenever I see them!

    • bailey says:

Anole… hmmm. I told my mommy about this, and she said she’s never heard the word, Anole! She’s always called them lizards. πŸ˜‰ But you’re right — anything that eats bugs is A-OK!

I wonder though… how come the snakes haven’t gotten these monster lizards yet? I’ve seen a couple of snakes in our backyard — they’ve made me jump so high! I guess the lizards are pretty smart!

Oh, boy! Pumpkin and Darby would sure be happy to help you chase that monster lizard. We have lots of lizards in our backyard. Every now and then I find a lizard tail — just the tail — which almost always means the lizard itself got away by detaching its tail! Weird, huh? Can you imagine how confused Darby and Pumpkin must be when that happens? Tail in the mouth or under the foot, but lizard STILL running away.

They sure are fast! But I’ve managed to catch a couple. Mommy makes me let them go, if I do catch them. But this one time, my non-furry sister told my mommy that I must have eaten a lizard. Later that day, I was a little sick, so I guess I did. I guess they aren’t that good for doggies!
