I Found Lizards Where?

Even though I’m just a puppy, I’m getting used to things happening unexpectedly. Like when the doorbell rings, or when a mango falls on the roof… or even if someone in my family talks in a different tone of voice. Either of these things can set me off barking up a storm.

I’m the same way with lizards. But I’m used to finding lizards in the usual places — under the deck (on all sides), around the side of the patio (both sides), and pretty much anywhere in the grass.

Today I started off my day in the usual way… looking for lizards outside. It was already pretty hot out, so Nala didn’t stay outside for too long. Mommy took me for a short walk out front, and things were pretty quiet.

Later on, I took a nap by the sliding door. I love laying there… it’s so nice to watch all the birds fly by, but still be inside to enjoy the cool air.

But today, something was different. As I got comfortable on the floor, my eyes spotted something up above. I immediately jumped up to find something very unexpected. A lizard!

A baby lizard had climbed up onto the patio door, and was just sitting there… hanging out. It made me go crazy! Mommy came over right away to see what the fuss was. “There’s a lizard on the door!” I barked. “Open it, quick, so I can get it!”

No way did she open the door. She quickly reached for her camera, as I had trouble containing my excitement, and she thought the lizard might run away. That’s what I was afraid of, too!

Look, it’s a baby lizard! Can you see it?

I Found Lizards Where?
But how can a lizard hang onto a glass door?

I Found Lizards Where?
I did some searching, and it seems that these lizards, or geckos,
have teeny, tiny hairs on their feet, and they’re sticky enough
so that they can hang sideways, or even upside down on the ceiling!

I Found Lizards Where?
I tried to reach the lizard, but um… it was on the other side of the glass.
I knew that.

I Found Lizards Where?
That didn’t stop me from trying!

Mommy told me that there had been lizards on the ceiling lots of times. I think that would make me try and jump really high! Mommy also said that she is sure there have been lizards in the house even when they didn’t know it. They’re really fast and sometimes run inside just as you open the door!

After a while, I noticed that the lizard had disappeared from the glass. Drat. Mommy took me and Nala outside and mommy found this lizard where we least expected it to be…

Hanging onto the end of a pool noodle! haha

Where will these lizards think up to hang next? You’ll have to stay tuned!

Woofs & hugs,

~Bailey

  1. Hey Bailey,

I don’t get why Mum wouldn’t let you out to play with the Lizard?

Hey, imagine if us pups could hang onto ceilings too? Think how much fun you and Nala could have chasing each other…..Tee hee

Mommy’s teaching me to leave the lizards, froggies and toads alone, ’cause we have poisonous toads that live here and she doesn’t want me coming face to face with one. So far I’m doing OK with that. There’s nothing wrong with just playing with them, is there? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now for climbing on the ceiling? I’m all up for that!

I LOVE GECKOS!!! They’re such cuties AND they keep the bug population down. We have a ton that hang out by the outdoor lights at home and I welcome them totally. What a great find, even when your nose gets squeeshed trying to get to them ๐Ÿ˜‰

Darby and Pumpkin would love to see that lizard. Do you ever catch them, or do you just try real hard?

    • bailey says:

I used to catch them, but that was before mommy started to teach me to leave all the little critters alone. I love chasing them though!!

  5. Bailey, I love the lizzards too! I sit in front of Diddy’s screen door and I watch. My tail poooooofs up when I see one. I bet we’d have a lot of fun hunting lizzards together!

  6. Oh my, we were very scared reading that, just in case the lizard got you!!! We only have them in Zoos over her, our human says she’d have a heart attack if she saw one for real!

  7. You really wanted to get at that lizard, Bailey! Don’t feel bad about your Mom not letting you get it. Gus always wants to go after them too, but we don’t let him either.
