The Big, Black Snake (Video) & My Leg

I come across lots and lots of snakes while walking in my backyard (here’s one story). They don’t seem to want to hurt me — they’re probably more scared of me than I am of them. The other day, my mommy and I came across this big, black garden snake…

Watch the video below…

I always seem to be the one to spot the snakes.

Maybe I have ‘snake radar.’

The Big Black Snake & My Leg
This one was looooong! He’s a black garden snake.

The strange thing was, that he didn’t move much,
even when we came close to it. He did end up moving,
though. Mommy went and got daddy, and by the time he
went to look, the snake was slithering away. 😉

Big, Black Snake Video… “OOH, he’s big.” (Watch the video with sound and you’ll understand. Teehee!)

My Leg…

I overheard my mommy talking… she mentioned that my back right leg wasn’t as strong as my back left leg. She’s right, you know. I tried to hide it from everyone, and I did a really great job of it too. I was still doing zoomies like crazy, and I was just as fast as always when I did my laps around the yard. You would think I could hide this little thing forever. Unfortunately, the thing that gave my secret away, was the rain.

You see, whenever it rains, mommy makes Nala and I wipe our paws when we come in the house… EACH one of our paws. First the front right, then the front left, then the back right, and then… then the back left.*SIGH*

I couldn’t hide it. When my mommy lifted my back left leg to wipe it dry, my back right leg just collapsed underneath me. Ever since that first time, mommy’s been watching me like a hawk. She told my daddy that she saw me limping a little bit, but honestly, you’d never know it if you saw me… ’cause I play so rough and jump and do all kinds of things, just like always. It’s just when I’m walking really slowly, when you could see a little teeny limp. I don’t think it’s a big deal, really. But mommy is thinking all kinds of things in her mind, and she’s gonna tell the doctor about it when I go for my vaccinations in a couple of weeks.

Mommy’s been trying to figure out how I hurt my leg. All I know, is if she’s gonna spend so much time trying to figure that one out, she’s gonna be busy for a loooong time! I’m crazy! I run like mad, I slide into things (sliding door incident), I hurt myself really bad when I was a 5-month-old puppy while running around underneath the deck (short story here), I’ve jumped and landed in ways you would never imagine. And if all I have out of everything I’ve been through, is a little limp… I think I’ve done great!

Please tell my mommy not to worry so much… there are much better things to do in our spare time (like getting Nala and me cheeeese!). Teehee!

I’ll let you know if I find out anything about my leg. Until then, it’s back to doin’ zooooomies!

We haven’t seen too many snakes around here, just one or two. Hey Bailey, you better take care of that leg and hopefully the vet can help it get all better! Happy weekend everyone!

  4. We will just know that everything will be fine with your leg! Buddy limped a little sometimes when he was younger but he outgrew it!

You are very brave to get so close to a snake! The Bear would have barked, Buddy would have run for the personal assistant and the personal assistant would have called them back and run for cover!
    Your friends!

    Ok that is frightening

  6. Now if Thunder were there with you, he would snatch those snakes in his mouth and toss them up in the air. Good thing all the snakes here are harmless too or he would be in big trouble. At least this year Mom says he didn’t find any.

Hope your leg is just a minor thing and gets better soon.

Snakes give me the willies! I saw one in the backyard this summer and I went screaming into the house like a little girl and I didn’t go out in the yard for a week!!

I sure hope your leg feels better soon Bailey, Mom’s worry about those things a lot, it’s just what we do:)

  8. Kari says:

oh heck no I am so scared of the snakes and so is Fred. Haylie on the other hand loves them and I get very scared cause here in Texas we have alot of rattle snakes!!!
    Your mommy is very brave!!

I hope that your other leg gets strong soon!

  9. And here I thought I was the Blogville klutz! I think you have me beat, Bailey.

Every so often we see one of those snakes but Dad doesn’t like snakes so I think they stay out of our yard when they can.

We have never seen a black garden snake before. Cleo and you would have had so much fun. She was our snake hunter, she would walk the yard for hours looking for them slithering little critters. Mom would freak when she would catch them and carry them around. She also loved to catch Toads and of course everything the caught she tried to bring inside through the doggie door. Do you ever do that? We hope your leggy gets better. Since you do so much running and jumping we think maybe you just stressed it and it needs to rest, but that looks like that could be a challenge for you. Sniffs, The Hounddogs

  11. Sam says:

Here in AZ we assume every snake is un-friendly till we get a closer look. You never know when a rattler crosses thru your yard!

Sam has one weak leg too – it is the side he always lays on. I try to do gentle stretches and massages to help him along. I’d talk to your vet first though! We’ll keep you in our thoughts!

    Sam

  12. Priscilla says:

Oh no, I don’t like snakes at all. I’ll get wobbly jelly legs if I see them, ugh!!!

I’m so sorry to hear about your right back leg and I hope the vet can help when you go to him. Eva runs and jumps wildly most of the time at home, she has weak hindlegs due to hip dysplasia and we are always worried about her.
