Today is Earth Day! If you don’t know what that is, you really should, because it affects each and every one of us… even us furries!
The first Earth Day started back in 1970, way long before I, or my furry mommy was born. That’s a long time ago. Today is a day for people to stop and appreciate our Earth’s natural environment. It’s also a day for people to think about what they can do to help our Earth live longer.
According to the Earth Day Network, “For over 40 years, Earth Day β April 22 β has inspired and mobilized individuals and organizations worldwide to demonstrate their commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.”
Wanting to be an earth-friendly puppy, I asked my mommy to take a quiz to measure our impact on the planet.
The following image is from the Earth Day Network’s Footprint Calculator, which helps us find out how many planets it takes to support our lifestyle:

According to the results, we’re not as earth-friendly as we could be.
Soooo, wanting to take part in the Earth Day celebration, I decided I would reuse an old toy instead of buying a new one!
When my family first brought me home at 3 months old last September, they bought me a ring made of tough rubber. I guess it’s like a teething ring. Well, somehow I lost sight of this toy — probably because all of my puppy teeth had fallen out, and I was excited about new toys. Well, I dug out my old teething ring and decided that I would play with this toy all day (and possibly even longer!), instead of wanting a new toy. Old toys are good too!!

My ring is so easy to carry…

And so much fun!

I love putting it over my head! haha

And sliding it across the floor.
But watch out — it’s MINE!

I love to play tug, and I usually win, too. π

I love to watch mommy spin my ring on the floor.

My new favorite, Earth Day & all around, every day, toy.
My ring. π
Here’s a really short video of me playing with my ring… <3
I had more fun playing with this toy the second time around, probably because I knew I was helping the environment. This is now my most favorite toy!
Is there an old toy that you can reuse and play with?

That’s some great info, thanks for sharing! Happy Earth Day!!
Happy Earth Day to you too! π
Thanks for the link to the global footprint quiz. It was an eye opener and we try VERY hard to be sustainable. In honor of the day we sorted our toys and are going to recycle the ones we no longer use to the pups at the rescue where Michael volunteers.
This weekend should be a wonderful celebration of life: Earth Day, and Easter. May you feel the awakening of all that is bright and hopeful and new and beautiful. May Easter be blessed with family, joy, traditions, special treats and love.
You’re welcome!! It definitely was an eye opener. I want to do whatever I can to help our earth. π
You are too sweet! I hope you and your family are equally blessed with everything sweet and as kind as you are. π
Woofs & hugs,
~Bailey
Earth Day??? I try to eat some earth every day! Mommy keeps saying “leave it”. Guess she doesn’t want me to eat it.
I guess we’ll just keep using our bio-degradable poop bags and recycling as much as we can.
Puppy Kisses,
Tanner
OOOh, I eat dirt too! Heh, heh, but don’t tell anyone. π
Mom pledges every year to do something new for Earth Day – by the time the next Earth Day rolls around it is a habit, so she just adds to it. This year she has decided to think recyclable when she does her art. We don’t know what it will look like, but it should be neat to find out!
Sam
Awesome! I would love to see some recyclable art! π
Woofs & hugs,
