I’m a chewer…I admit it. I love chewing stuffz. It doesn’t matter to me if I can eat it or not, but it does matter to my family. So they try and find me things that I can chew and eat.
Before I start, I want to wish my mommy, and all my mommy friends, a very
Today I’m reviewing Purina’s® Busy Bone® Ultimate ChewTM.
Busy Bone® Ultimate ChewTM, by Purina®

This bone is for big puppies and doggies over 55 lbs.
Usually, mommy gets me plain rawhide bones to chew on. I love them so much, that at any one time there could be up to 5-6 bones scattered around the house at various sizes, due to my chewing. Sadly though, I keep losing them… they disappear under the couch, inside the couch, and behind furniture.
Since Nala’s surgery to remove a few broken teeth, she’s not allowed to chew on bones anymore. π
Recently, my mommy got me a surprise — something that made me so happy that I ran around the house with it, showing it off to everyone. It’s a Purina® Busy Bone® Ultimate ChewTM, and it’s the biggest bone I’ve ever seen!
The Purina® company says that this bone is for doggies over 55 lbs., and that they shouldn’t eat it more than once a month. No wonder I hadn’t gotten one before.
Look below for the Good Stuff vs. the Bad Stuff…

This bone is for big doggies over 55 lbs.
It has a tasty meaty center.
I loved carrying it all over the house!
“OK mommy, you can take one picture of me holding my bone.”
“No, Nala. You’re not allowed to chew bones.
Let mommy just get this one picture of me.”
“Nala, this is not a Bone Wars post!
Apparently, Nala had other plans.
She chased me and my bone into the bedroom.
She almost cornered me near the closet, but I jumped up onto the bed.
She followed me onto the bed and tried to get my Ultimate Chew!
This is Nala we’re talking about! She’s getting gutsy!
I ran out of the bedroom, and that’s when mommy told us to calm down.
I guess Nala would love to chew on this bone!
The Good Stuff:
It’s a doggie bone — what could be bad about that?
- Even though I’m still a puppy, I’m a big puppy… so I could handle the ultimate size.
- It has a tasty center that’s fun to lick.
- It can roll across the floor, even though it’s not totally round. Makes it fun to chase when I drop it.
The Not-So-Good Stuff:
When mommy first gave me this new bone, I couldn’t get enough of it. I chewed it a while, but then I found my toys. There was no way I was going to finish it. Maybe it’s because I kept getting distracted, but I think I spend more time chewing on the rawhide bones than this one. Though, I do like to throw this one around… it makes a really big noise on the floor when I drop it. I love to get everyone’s attention that way. π
- This bone didn’t keep me chewing for as long as my mommy thought it would.
- It’s better to eat this bone on the floor, since pieces of it could get caught up in carpeting or a rug.
My conclusion? This bone may keep big doggies interested in it, but it didn’t do much for me. I’m over the 55 lb. limit, but I’m still a puppy. I imagine that tastes vary between all doggies, so you shouldn’t overlook this one just because I didn’t like it. You should always supervise your puppy or doggie when they’re chewing on bones — sometimes we get carried away!
**5-10-11 UPDATE**
I just might not have been in the mood when I was given this bone, so I’d like to add to my review…

Since my mommy wasn’t feeling well today, I figured I would
give this bone a chance. As you can see from the above picture,
I got a little carried away. Teehee!
This is all that’s left of the bone, after about 20 minutes or so.
I wanted to add that the bone doesn’t really have much smell, but once I started chewing it, the smell was strong enough for my mommy to smell, and she wasn’t right next to me. Once I stopped chewing on it, the smell kind of went away.
Another thing… My paw got all icky from leaning the bone on my paws while eating it.

It’s not a big deal — I just get to play in some water after. teehee!
Lotsa woofs & hugs,
~Bailey

As a pet sitter who often feels terribly for the dogs who are left at home for days/nights on end when their owners are out of town I tend to buy things for the dogs as time goes by. I can’t help it! Anyway, one of the treats I buy is the Busy Bone b/c it gives the dogs something to do for a while depending on the size of the dog. I haven’t met one dog who does not like the Busy Bone and I’m glad about that!
Well… hmmm… I’m glad your doggies enjoy the Busy Bones! Actually, since my mommy still wasn’t feeling well today, I had some time to chew this bone today…and it wasn’t that bad. I guess I wasn’t interested before because there was too much going on around me. π
Wow Bailey, that might be the biggest bone I’ve ever seen, no wonder Nala wasn’t happy to just sit back and let you eat it all on your own……:)
Hope you’re having a fun day,
Your pal Snoopy π
Hi, Snoopy! It sure WAS the biggest bone! I actually ate more than half of it today! teehee!
That sure looks like one tuff chew bone! How long did you chew it before you lost interest in it? Is the smell strong? Is it rubbery like or rock solid hard?
Hi Amber-Mae! I did try chewing it a little, and might have taken off a few pieces, but I’d say that more of the bone chipped off as I continually dropped it on the floor. I don’t remember it having a strong smell, and it was hard and heavy like a rock (yes, solid too)… not at all rubbery.
I think it’s under a couch right now, but I will have a look later to let you know for sure. π
Woofs & hugs,
~Bailey
Sooo, I chewed this bone a little bit today. Yeeep, it does have a smell. But it didn’t start smelling until I started chewing it. And it makes a little bit of a mess, so I try and be careful on the carpet, but I can’t help but get little pieces all over. Since my mommy still isn’t feeling that well, it did manage to kept me busy for a little while. π
Just stopped by to say hi and thank you for visiting our blog. That looks like a great bone to chew on. Mom gets us the hard plain bones at Petsmart, sometimes she fills them with peanut butter and yogurt and then freezes them. We love to chew on those a lot.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
Thank you! I’m so glad to have visited you all!
OOOH, freezing yummy stuffz on a bone — I’m gonna have to tell my mommy about that. π
Happy Mommy Day to your mommy too!! π
Woofs & hugs,
~Bailey
I chew everything too! Mommy was anxious to see how much you liked these. Did you get an upset tummy or anything from them? That is usually what Mommy is most afraid of.
Tell your Mommy “Happy Mommy’s Day” from me and my family.
Puppy Kisses,
Tanner
I didn’t get a chance to get an upset tummy — I didn’t really eat much of it at all. :/
I’ll tell my mommy, if you tell your mommy Happy Mommy Day! She misses you all. π
Woofs & hugs,
~Bailey
I love a great chew, but I never really liked these either. Since I’m not allowed to have rawhide (my friend Precious choked on one and went to the rainbow bridge and my brother Felix got very sick off eating a hide treat, so Mom said NO MORE!) Mom likes to give us the thick braided Bully Sticks. Since they are real meat, they keep us interested for a long time!
OOOH, thanks for telling me about the braided Bully Sticks — I’m going to have my mommy check those out. π
So sorry to hear about Precious and Felix! {{{puppy hugs}}}
Tell your mommy Happy Mommy Day!
Woofs & hugs,
~Bailey
Happee Mommy’s Day. Thanks for the review. We are not allowed to have that stuff. We chew anything to shreads in 10 minutes not matter how tough it is. Good advice, always supervise cause we try to swallow it whole.
Benny & Lily
Happy Mommy Day to your mommy, too!
Woofs & hugs,
~Bailey
I love to chew bones – my mom bought me one of these and I finished it in 10 minutes – she wondered what was supposed to keep me busy if I could chew through it so quickly. The only thing we have found that doesn’t get chomped up straight away is a good old fashioned marrow bone.
That’s right! My mommy gets me the rawhide bones — those are the ones that keep ME busy! teehee!
Woofs & hugs,
~Bailey
Thank you for the product review. Monty isn’t much of a chewer, but we like to give Sam a bone every week or so to help with his breath. I’ve looked at those, but wasn’t sure how they would stand up to Sam’s super jaws.
Have a Happy Mother’s Day!
Sam
You’re very welcome! If you end up getting one, I’d love to know what Sam thinks of it. π
Woofs & hugs,
~Bailey
I once owned a dog who was a chewer. He chewed everything and anything he could get his teeth on… even me every once and a while! π
I used to chew on everything…but I think I’m starting to learn what is good and what’s bad. I’m still a puppy, so I’m still learning. π
Happy woofs & hugs,
~Bailey
Well is sure looked like you were having a good time, at least for a while! Happy Mother’s Day to your Mom!!!
We sure were having a good time! Woooo! I LOVE it when Nala chases me. π
I’ll pass the mommy day wishes to my mommy! Thanks!
Woofs & hugs,
~Bailey
I loved your picture story about the bone wars. Katy and Bailey have the same issues. I tried my mother’s human solution of buying them the same items only to come to the conclusion it isn’t the bones, it is the possession of the item that is the goal. I can buy the exact same bone and they will determine which bone is the one to be possessed and they will chase each other all over the house to have that bone.
Heh heh… you figured us out, alright! Mommy always gets 2 of the same toys for us, and it doesn’t matter (even if they’re the same color)… I’ll still try and take Nala’s away! π
Woofs & hugs,
~Bailey
