Tug of War

If you know Nala, she’s getting up in years (she’ll be 13 in November) and doesn’t play as much as she used to. Most of the time she lays around, but at least once a day she gets a little feisty and wants to play. Yesterday, she decided she wanted to play with my favorite toy!

Tug of War
Recently, I received this tug toy from the Five Sibes.
Nala got a cupcake squeaky toy, but I caught her looking at my tug toy.
Yesterday, she finally made a grab for it!

Tug of War
Yeah, sometimes I tease her with it.
I never expected her to take it, though. Ever.

Tug of War
But she did. She pulled it around so fast,
that it flew out of my mouth.

Tug of War
She tried to keep it to herself…

Tug of War
…moving away so I wouldn’t get it.
But I saw an opportunity to grab hold.

Tug of War
She turned, hoping I would let go.

Tug of War
But I held on.

Tug of War
We moved around the floor, both holding onto the toy.

Tug of War
I think she was surprised at how strong I was.

Tug of War
We tugged back and forth, both not wanting to let go.
Look at us — we’re playing together! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Tug of War
I jumped up on the couch to get better positioning.

Tug of War
But Nala pulled out one of her strongest holds…

Tug of War
It was so strong, that she pulled me off the couch!

Tug of War
She started to swing me around, but I fought back.

Tug of War
And there we were — in a tug of war in the middle of the floor.

Tug of War
I saw she was getting tired, so I moved to end the struggle.

Tug of War
I turned to my right, so I could get a better grip.

Tug of War
Then I put my paw over my toy, to secure it.

Tug of War
I shook my head back and forth to loosen her grip.

Tug of War
And just like that, she let go.

Tug of War
And walked away.

And that was the end of our tug of war. Thanks for playing with me, Nala! ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy Tuesday, friends! Big woofs & hugs!

  2. Well isn’t that what a “tug” is for? It’s a great game – I keep that especially for my dad – I don’t like playing tug with the “IT” and “THING” but LOVE LOVE LOVE playing tug with my dad

    hey Bailey,

What a great sisfur you have! Nala rocks! She is not only strong, but can hold her own in a fun game of tug-of-war! Pawsome pictures! And love how you got on the couch to try and out maneuver Nala. Good thinking! But, she was too strong for you! BOL! Way to go, Nala! You did great, Bailey. Keep it up and your strength will really build!

Hey Bailey, older doesn’t mean feeble! Nala has LOTS more experience and strategic skills than a young pup like you. She gave you a good run for your money during that tug of war!

  6. That really looks like fun!!! Maybe Holly needs another dog in the house to play with!!! Lots of love, Debbie & Holly

  7. Isn’t it just great to see the senior dog have a bit of puppy fun! We see this happen every once in a while with Phantom and he will be 13 in November. Most of the time he has no interest in toys at all, but then surprise! – he grabs a toy and goes nuts with it. Mom just loves it.

  8. And who says old Dogs can’t learn new tricks? I’m glad you and Nala had so much fun, I’d keep an eye on your toys though buddy! Tee Hee
