Sunday Cuddles & Nala Storm Update

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes — my mommy and Taylor are both doing much better today.

Daddy played with me lots, since mommy and Taylor were resting most of the day. I was a good girl and didn’t cause too much trouble… even during the thunderstorm…

Speaking of thunderstorms… During the most recent thunderstorm we had, Nala was a nervous nelly and did her usual shaking and cowering. But this time, in addition to putting on the ThundershirtTM, mommy held up Nala’s tail so it didn’t hide between her legs. Nala didn’t really like her tail being held up, but mommy kept at it. She didn’t want Nala cowering and as she held her tail up she explained to her in a calm voice that everything would be alright, and that nothing would happen to her.

But Nala was still nervous on that day.

Moving ahead to yesterday…

It was quiet for most of the day, with mommy and Taylor sleeping until late afternoon. Then around 7pm, the thunder began. But something was different. Can you guess what it was?

Nala wasn’t reacting to the thunder and lightning! Can you believe it? Mommy and daddy noticed, but I noticed way before they did. She was aware of the noise, and kept her ears perked up, but she didn’t appear to be shaking, and she didn’t cower under the desk. And you know what else she didn’t do? She didn’t hide her tail between her legs!

Nala was very aware of the thunder and lightning.

But she didn’t react! Maybe it’s a miracle. πŸ™‚

All this without a ThundershirtTM.

We all think this is amazing, but we’re not keeping our hopes up just yet. This could, after all, be just a one time occurrence. Whatever the reason, we’re just happy that Nala wasn’t feeling bad during the storm.

As for me…

I’m spending the day cuddling!

Do you have a favorite place to hang out and cuddle stuff?

Happy Sunday woofs & hugs, friends!

  1. We hope the storms stop scaring everyone. Holly is now hiding under the computer table from them! Lots of love, Debbie & Holly

Glad everyone’s feeling better! That holding that tail up when she wants to tuck it in is some powerful stuff. I saw it on The Dog Whisperer and it seemed to pull the pup out of the anxious state she was in. Good thinking mom!

  3. Glad everyone is feeling better, and add my hopes to everyone else’s that the storms will bring no worries!!

  4. We had heard before about the miracle of holding a dog’s tail up and the positive attitude it creates. Another great story about how it works.

  5. Three barks for Nala (and paws up high). Progress at least. Our packmate, Rusty, is also terrified of storms (and rain, and even a dark cloud or a strong breeze). Mom ordered him a Thundershirt and it came yesterday. Since it hasn’t rained yet, we don’t know if it’ll help him or not.

  6. Crystal says:

Hopefully Nala will keep being more relaxed about the storms.

Hey Bailey, sure glad to see nala is getting more and more confident.
You guys have been having a ton of thunderstorms.

Take it easy and enjoy the rest of your Sunday

Oh great. Now Mom’s gonna come into my storm bunker and hold my tail in the air. Ugh. Thanks guys πŸ˜‰ Glad Nala had a calm storm experience! Encore! Encore! πŸ˜€

    Waggin at ya,

Happy Easy Sunday! That is way cool with Nala, we hope she is learning that all is okay with the boomers.

Hopefully Nala will get better with storms in time and with better experiences! My girls’ favourite places are on the chairs – and Lola’s especially is on the chair I’m on, cuddled up with me! πŸ™‚

  11. Happy Sunday to you too, Bailey. And a happy day to Nala too. We hope that maybe she has figured out that she is safe inside from the storms. Glad to hear that Mom and Taylor are doing better too. Have fun cuddling with that pillow.
