A couple of weeks ago I went to the doctor to get my rabies license tag updated…
Thank goodness I didn’t need a shot, ’cause I just got my rabies shot last year, and it’s a 3-year vaccine. I didn’t really need to go, but it’s been 5 months since I went last, and mommy had a couple questions for the doctor.

Mommy took me in my hu-grandma’s car.
Mommy’s been using it as a second car, since
hu-grandma hasn’t been able to use it.
I don’t go to the doctor that often, so being
in the waiting room makes me a little anxious.
Thank goodness we didn’t come at a busy time.
I watched every single time someone moved in my direction.
Every time I heard a noise, I thought the
doctor was going to open the door and come in.
And he eventually did.
The doctor looked me over and gave me a check-up. Mommy had some concerns with my eyes. Taylor had noticed that both of my eyes had cloudy spots. It wasn’t as noticeable in the beginning, ’cause mommy could only see it when light shined on my eyes a certain way. But then mommy was able to see the cloudiness all the time.
When the doctor looked at my eyes, he told mommy that he thought I had either nuclear sclerosis, or corneal dystrophy. He seems to think I have corneal dystrophy. He said it probably won’t get worse and I probably won’t go blind, but told mommy to watch to see if it does get worse. If it does get worse, I’ll have to see an eye specialist. Nala’s been to an eye specialist and had surgery — I hope I don’t have to do that. :/ Mommy was happy to at least find out that it didn’t appear to be serious, and that my vision was not obscured by the cloudy spots.
Another thing that I had checked on this day, was my weight. I’ve been having some problems with that this past year. I used to be a slim puppy. In January, 2012 at 18Β½ months old, I weighed 69.4 lbs. But just 5 months later in June (just before I turned 2 years old), I had gained weight. I gained 7.4 lbs, for a total of 76.8 lbs. I was put on a diet. But just 4 months later in October, 2012, at 2 years, 4 months old, I lost 5.8 lbs and weighed 71 lbs.
I thought everything was going well, until March of this year. In just 5 months, I had gained 9 lbs and weighed 80 lbs! Mommy was horrified. The weight loss foods she had been trying were not working. She tried feeding me another brand, and that didn’t work either. I gained 3 more pounds in just 3 months, for a total of 83 lbs — my heaviest.
Mommy had to get serious. She ended up going with a better brand food (see below), and now here we are 5 months later. At my doctor’s appointment a couple of weeks ago, at 3 years, 5 months old, I had finally lost weight! YAY! I lost a total of 6.5 lbs, and weighed 76.5 lbs. The doctor says I still need to lose weight (he would like to see me closer to 70 lbs), but at least I’m finally going in the right direction! Mommy measures my food, and for the most part, does not give in to my whining when I ask for more food, which I do quite often.
Besides breakfast, which I eat all at once, Mommy splits my dinners into 2 meals. The first is 1 cup of food, and the 2nd (I call it my “second food”), is put into a cup in a baggie until I ask for it a bit later. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t (most of the time I do). Mommy also has been putting some of my dinner into the Kong Wobbler I got as a prize, so I get to work for it. Any way I can get extra exercise, is a good thing. π
Weight gain is not good for my hips, and it’s probably the reason why I developed hip dysplasia so young. The doctor said losing more weight would be a positive thing, so mommy is doing everything she can to try and help me reach my goal. π

Even though I wasn’t afraid of my doctor (he saw
me as a little puppy), I was very happy to be going home.
What food has helped me lose weight…
Nutro Natural Choice Lite Weight Loss Diet (I included my affiliate link to the 15 lb bag, but we buy the 30 lb bag). I love the taste so much that mommy doesn’t even have to put any extra treats in it in order to get me to eat it. Sometimes Nala likes to come eat my food too, so I have to watch her — that’s how good it is! Mommy gives Nala senior doggie food so she doesn’t lose weight. She definitely doesn’t need to lose any weight at her age of 15 years. π
2016 Update: From the summer of 2014 to the end of 2015, I was on Purina’s Veterinary Diet — OM Overweight Management food. I lost about 20lbs. As of December 2015, I’ve been on Purina Weight Savor Weight Management food. I’m also walking 2 miles each day to maintain my good figure! π
Thank you! <3
Please keep my hu-grandma in your thoughts and prayers…
Mommy’s mommy has gone back on the cancer medicine — her doctor wants to keep the cancer from getting worse. The good news, is that grandma has no other health issues at the moment. Please continue to say prayers for her. <3

Our vet put Sam on a high fiber diet – he always struggled with his weight, staying at roughly 80lbs his whole life. Ask her if they have something similar?
We will keep our paws crossed that your eyes are not serious.
