Brushing Teeth

Brushing TeethI’ve been watching my human family really closely these past few months, and I’ve noticed that they seem to have some silly personal habits. Like there’s the washing of the hands, brushing of the hair, and brushing of the teeth. Now, shortly after I came home this past September, my family decided that I should develop some personal habits of my own.

There’s no problem with washing — I LOVE water and even make sure to put my paws in my water bowl! I’m sure to get an “A” in that department. But I seem to have a problem with brushing my fur — what is that wirey thing? For some reason, I just can’t let it touch me! I get a “D” for Don’t Touch Me! 😉

Brushing TeethThen there’s the toothbrush — is it natural for a dog to have their teeth brushed? I don’t know! But I happen to LOVE the toothpaste, so I don’t care if it’s natural or not!

My mom told me that it’s good for a dog to brush their teeth. If we don’t, our gums can get infected and get some awful-sounding disease called gingivitis. Even worse, our breath will smell so bad that no human will want to come near us! I don’t really love the toothbrush (well, I do like biting it), but I love the toothpaste! Dogs can’t use human toothpaste because it’s toxic to us, so my mom got me something called, “C.E.T. Enzymatic Toothpaste,” in poultry flavor. My mom puts some of it on the toothbrush, and of course I try and lick it off (haha), but usually my mom does get my teeth brushed eventually.

Sometimes in the mornings she will put on Oxyfresh Pet Gel. This tastes really good too! She puts a little on her finger and rubs it on my gums. I don’t mind it so much because it tastes so good, but you should see Nala — she hates getting her teeth brushed! Mom usually just uses the Oxyfresh on her because her teeth are so sensitive. She just had her teeth cleaned at the doctor’s office — I hope I never have to get mine cleaned there! Anyway, look how white my teeth are in the photo to the right — I think I deserve an “A” in the teeth cleaning department…don’t you? 🙂
