The Fourth of July isn’t the only day that has the awful, scary sound of fireworks… usually people start setting them off way before the 4th. But no matter when they start, the sound is usually just as scary.
If you’re just joining me here, my furry sister, Nala gets terrified of scary thunder and fireworks sounds. She just started wearing a ThundershirtTM, and I’ve been trying to give it a really honest review. There are some doggies that may be ‘cured’ after wearing a ThundershirtTM one time, but my sister is sadly not one of them. She gets really terrified and starts to shake — it’s really sad to watch. I usually don’t get scared by stuff, so thunder and fireworks just don’t affect me at all.
If you’d like to start from the beginning, you can read Part I and Part II of my ThundershirtTM review.
First, I would like to share a couple of things…
~On June 21, The Dogs of Greenhill Farm awarded me with the Versatile Blogger Award! Thank you so much! <3

~On July 4, the doggies at Five Sibes put on a Patriotic Pets on Parade for the July 4th holiday! Nala and I sent in our patriotic photo, and it won for K9 Patriotic Duo! They also included our photo in their wonderful patriotic slide show/video! They did a wonderful job! Check it the Patriotic Pets on Parade at Five Sibes!
~My friends over at Schnauzer Days are having a Photo Competition! The theme of the competition is ‘Pet Summers around the World.’ So get a photo together that shows summer in your part of the world, and send it in! Click here for more information on how to enter.
3rd Use of ThundershirtTM: 7-3-11 Fireworks at Night
As soon as we heard fireworks, mommy put the ThundershirtTM on Nala. I think she’s starting to like it. When she sees mommy hold it up, Nala comes over and bends her head down so mommy could slip it over her head.
The night before the 4th of July, people set off lots of fireworks. Nala started pacing the floor as expected. Mommy called her into the bedroom, and up on the bed. I didn’t want to get left out, so I followed along. π
Nala did OK during the fireworks… she was a little nervous, but she managed to lay down and relax a little. I’m starting to think that she’s doing better with the fireworks sounds, than she is with the sound of thunder. In the video below, you’ll see how a big boom of fireworks made Nala and even me, jump (I opened my mouth! Teehee!).

Hmmm… you have an interesting smell, little doggie.
Your fur tastes kinda strange though.
Heh, it’s not a real doggie. This is a stuffed doggie that my
mommy has had for many years. It’s in great condition and
still has the tags on. I wonder if my furiends over at Five Sibes
would be able to tell if it was real or not? π
Nala’s just starting to settle down on the bed.
Nice tongue shot, Nala!
Nala finally felt comfortable enough to take a nap.
It probably helped that she was tired. π
She was asleep for about a half hour, even with some fireworks
going off. That is, until…
A couple of MANGOES fell off our tree onto the roof of our bedroom!!
Those were worse than the fireworks! Woke Nala and me right up!
Peek-a-booooo!
Video: If you don’t want to watch the video, just forward it to the :25 mark (peek-a-booo!). There’s no music, but there are some fireworks sounds after the :25 mark.

It sounds like the Thundershirt is starting to help a bit. A friend of mine who uses it on her dog puts in on way before the noises happen. Perhaps that would help?
I know Nala is anxious in the photos so I feel bad saying this but I can’t help it: She looks SO cute in her Thundershirt! She’s just darn cute no matter what she’s wearing!

It does look like the shirt is at least helping her some!! I gues some improvement is better than none. And I love the “Peek a Boo” shot!!
Puppy Kisses,
Tanner
BOL! Mangos ruin *everything*
Thanks for the thorough review of the Thundershirt under different situations. We are nearly conviinced that this would be a good thing for YoYoMa, who is blind and gets really agitated at loud or strange noises. Hee, too paces, and keeps on alert.
So the shirt DOES work which is great! I hope it just gets better & better.
I hope Nala gets better with her shirt! Dunc used to bark like crazy at fireworks, but now he’s so hard of hearing, they don’t bother him at all!
hey Bailey,
LOVE your “peek-a-boo” photo! You look so adorable!
Congratulations on your pawsome award! Well deserved!
It makes me sad that Nala gets so terrified of loud noises. I am glad the Thundershirt helped a little during the fireworks, at least enough that she was able to nap a bit. I think it is a good sign that she likes to wear it, so perhaps as time goes by it may work better. Good luck! I know it must be hard as the little sisfur to see your big sisfur so distraught. I am proud of you, though, for being so brave!
Suka
It sure does seem to have had some positive affect!

Hopefully over time the shirt will work better and better. It is no fun when a doggie gets scared of thunder and fireworks – it distressing for the hoomans too that they can’t do anything to stop it.
My mom bought a thundeshirt for her American eskimo. She said it seemed to calm her the last couple of nights with the fireworks. Torrey needs one I think, but I want to get more opinions from real dog owners before I buy one. So thanks for your review.
Hi there,
Glad you guys weren’t too bad with the fireworks, who would have expected the Mangoes to join in!? π
Well done on your award, I’m gonna head over to check out your pic, Mum was too disorganised to enter me, gonna check out the other competition you mentioned too π
Have a fun day,
Your pal Snoopy π
The Thundershirt might not have ‘cured’ Nala completely, but it looks like it took the edge off of her anxiety! You should tell your mom to turn thunderstorms and fireworks into fantastic-food party times, if Nala isn’t too stressed to eat – it’d make it fun for both of you! π
Congratulations on the award, too!
I saw your winning picture over there, terrific you two were fur sure!
You have me seriously working on DH regarding the shirt. As we get more early morning thunder wake up calls I am thinking he might be more open to it.
Congrats on your award and the patriotic duo award! Great fun!
Glad the Thundershirt helped Nala get through the 4th. Excellent! π
So Mango was being mischievous again eh? That guy ;P
Waggin at ya,
Roo
For once I am at a loss for words. BOL!
