It must have been a rainy season last week, ’cause it rained and rained! Nala had lots of opportunities to use the ThundershirtTM, and mommy took each one of them.
Last Friday we had another storm. It started in the morning, and continued on and off until early evening. The rain had stopped at night, but wouldn’t it figure… someone had some leftover fireworks and set them off, just as Nala had started to calm down.
Before I continue with my latest review, I want to tell you a couple of things…
First, a friend of mine is in a contest! The FiveSibes entered a photo of Wolf as part of the “Take Your Dog to Work Day” Campaign. One of the prizes includes a $500 donation to a shelter of the winner’s choosing, and Wolf & the FiveSibes family want to help homeless Huskies! If you have a free moment, could you please click on this link and vote for Wolf’s photo? Thank you so much, friends!
The next thing is, I learned something very important from Jan of Jan’s Funny Farm, and since I have lots of kitty friends, I thought I should share it. It turns out that there are flea-killing products that contain an ingredient called, “permethrin” — this ingredient is DANGEROUS to kitties and could be deadly! Click here to read Jan’s post — she also includes some really good resources on permethrin. Thank you, Jan, for posting about this important topic! 🙂
Now to the review:
Since it rains here so often and sometimes for just a short time, I think I’m gonna post reviews whenever we have longer storms. For the other times, I really don’t get a chance to watch Nala and evaluate her reactions — there just isn’t enough time. Mommy still puts the shirt on Nala, but I just won’t write about it unless there is a major change in her reaction.
We had a bad thunderstorm on Friday, July 8. Mommy held up the ThundershirtTM to get Nala’s attention, and then Nala walked over and put her head down so mommy could put it on. The thunder seems to be the worst part of Nala’s fear, though she is afraid of the rain itself because thunder usually comes along with it. And lightning, even though there is no sound, is bad too ’cause Nala knows to expect the thunder that comes right after.
While Nala was wearing the ThundershirtTM, she didn’t pace the floor as much as she used to. Sadly, her shaking was the same. After the thunder passed, there was still a little rain, and surprisingly, Nala’s shaking stopped. Normally she would continue to shake throughout the entire storm, until it stopped raining. Have we made some more progress?
Later at night, the shirt went back on… some people in the neighborhood must have had some leftover fireworks. Thankfully, the noise didn’t last too long.
Positives on this day:
- Not as much pacing
- No shaking during thunder-less rain
Negatives on this day:
- Still shaking during thunderstorm

Awww, Nala… I’m sorry you’re so scared. It’s just rain. 🙂
Water is very important — you like to drink it, don’t you?
OOH, now that was some thunder.
Sometimes thunder is pretty loud, huh?
The storm will be over soon, Nala.
Wanna bark at the cat when it comes out from under the car?

Continue to follow your reviews and I confess I hoped the thundershirt would be some kind of miracle. It does sound like there’s a sort of learning curve, so hope you continue to see some positive changes in Nala.
It seems that Nala is experiencing kind of a learning curve in the effectiveness of the Thundershirt. We so appreciate this long term review in different situations on different days. Still not convinced that it will help my brother’s nervousness, but we are continue to follow your trial run.
It’s real good that it seems like the Thundershirt is helping Nala to relax a little! I’m sad that it isn’t a magic cure all–but I guess nothing ever really is!
Hi Bailey! Glad you found our blog!
Darwin’s loves her thundershirt too. We put it on her during the days leading up to the 4th of July and she totally would ignore the fireworks and just relax. And I like that we’re not drugging her up to calm her down.
Thanks for the review! Holly is becoming more and more like my last sweet dog, Alex who was so afraid of storms. I’m really thinking of getting one for her because she is beginning to panic at these storms. Lots of love, Debbie & Holly
I just went over and voted! Yep, our humans had a disasterous experience with that stuff back when, it’s awful. Hey, maybe that thundershirt takes a little time, sounds promising though!
We’ve had pretty good luck with our Thundershirt. Lilac is especially fond of it!

Looks like it is a positive thing! Glad it is starting to work!! Love Taylor’s shorts too!!!
Puppy Kisses,
Tanner
We guess it’s like everything else, works with some and vice-versa. Thanks for the review

I am glad it is helping with some of her stress. I am still working on DH.
We have a storm fearer here too – Phantom. But he actually gets more upset in advance of the storm’s arrival. He is fine during a storm. The thundershirt has done wonders for lots of dogs, and we hope you continue to see things go better for Nala.
