We’ve had quite a bit of rain lately… and that’s brought out lots of creaturesss.
First among them, are the dragonflies! Oh wowserz! It’s a big cycle: the mosquitos come from all the rain, and the dragonflies come from all the mosquitos! Mommy says she likes the dragonflies, ’cause they eat the mosquitos.

Here’s a picture from right outside our front door.
Look how many dragonflies there are!

Here’s a close-up — there must have been so many
mosquitos for there to be this many dragonflies!

This is a picture of the sky during a recent storm.

Mommy has a fascination with clouds, and never misses
a chance to take some photos… even when it’s raining.
Now for the snake…
Many times when mommy takes Nala and me out in the backyard, we come across harmless snakes. They’re usually garter snakes, a non-venomous type of snake. They’re not that long either. Usually we see black snakes, but sometimes we see silver colored ones.
Just recently, Nala noticed a snake on the deck. It’s a very unusual place to find a snake… we usually find them in the grass.
When mommy noticed Nala sniffing near the snake, she called her over, and then mommy ran inside to get her camera (she’s never far from her camera).

Here’s the snake near MY pool.
I wonder if he wanted to go for a swim?!

He was hanging out in the shade of my pool.

But he wasn’t moving away. He just stayed in one spot.

Mommy said it looked like he had trouble sliding along the deck.
So, mommy took a short video of him trying to move, and then she helped him off the deck. You should have seen him slither away once he got in the grass! Wowserz, he was fast! Maybe the deck was too hot for him to move on… I don’t know. But at least we helped him get back underneath the deck where it was cooler.

And that’s my snake story. π

Wow, a snake! Yikes, and you got so close! Nice photos there Bailey!
Nice photos of dragonflies and mosquitoes! I also love the video of your snake. It must be raining hard in your area because these animal and insects are out in their hiding place. Thank you for sharing these photos. π
Happy 14 month Barkday, Bailey! It is wonderful watching you grow up! We hope you enjoy this great time of life between puppiness and adulthood where you can just “be.”
Momma misses dragonflies since she moved from the midwest but she does NOT miss mosquitoes! And dad LOVES all kinds of snakes (we have all been taught to give them wide berth since we have hurtful snakes here in the desert).
Mommy does not like snakes very much. Your Mommy is courageous to take a picture. Mommy would have run inside and locked the doors.
Happy 14 month Bark Day!
Puppy Kisses,
Tanner
Mom says she has seen more snakes here in the USA then in her whole life back home in Australia – and that is supposed to be the most dangerous place for them !
I know that there are some ‘good snakes’ but I’m still afraid of all of them. Pictures like yours are the closest I ever come to one…Or try too!
I hope you’re doing well!!
That rain better stop so those creatures can go home

Bailey, you have lots of dragonflies!! We saw one the other day which was unusual around here. Love the video of the snake…looks like he is doing a dance!! Glad he got to safety. Reminds mom of years ago when she lived in an apartment next to the woods and every summer, they had lots of snakes come up to visit. Some were black snakes but others were cooperheads which meant bad news. She showed one of them how mean she was when she came in from work and found it on her front door..she threw her pocketbook at it!! Crazy mom!!! Lots of love, Holly & Mom
we’ve been getting large dragonfly type things at our house lately!

We don’t see too many snakes around our house…but I have seen some dragon flys. Watch those boomers!
Wowsers!!!! Dat snake looked like he be on a snake treadmill! BOL
Lost our comment somewhere in the posting. Basically we said Mama likes dragonflies for their bug eating capacity. However, Mama has this real issue with ANY kind of snake. Even your snake pictures freaked her out. She wouldn’t let us watch the video. Maybe we can sneak a peak later. We have had more garter snakes moving into the yard and Mama is ready to declare war.
If Thunder were there, that snake wouldn’t be on your deck for long. He likes to grab them in his mouth and toss them up in the air. Mom has to rush out and get them away so we don’t have any problems. That one at your place was doing quite the deck dance:)
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
Cool photos! Snakes know better than to come in our yard. Lucy is a champion snake slinger from way back!
Yay for dragonflies!!! Mom wants a few as pets in the house. You know to get the skeeters that make it inside π Luved the snake video! Beautiful thing π Glad you helped it off the deck. Looked like it couldn’t get any traction. Too funny π Looked like that one was a garter.
Mom says aren’t storms the best?! She luves them. The wilder the better. Crazy clouds. Lightning snaking across the skies. Windows rattling from the thunder. Wonderful. Great photos of those ominous clouds! π
Now me, give me a calm sunny day anytime. Storms? No thanks! I’m with Nala on that one.
Waggin at ya,
Roo
Bailey, we love your dragonflies (the Mama is a big fan), but your snake is NOT OK. The Mama is very glad there has never been a snake in our yard or she would *flip out*
