It’s been a crazy week here — I wasn’t sure what was going on! But there have been a few major changes.
First, please keep your paws crossed that Irene keeps going east! We’re already getting a lot of wind from it. :/
Now for my great week…
This has got to be the best week, EVER! It started off really bad, ’cause of the robbery 2 houses down from us this past Monday. But something good DID come out of that.

Hmmm… Nala’s INSIDE the crate. MY crate.

This can’t be good.

Neither she nor I knew what was going on.

Nala’s NEVER been in a crate in our home.

I just sat on the couch, & watched as they all left the house.
What the heck was going on?!
They left me OUT, and Nala IN!
That’s right, friends… the time has come! I no longer have to stay inside my crate when everyone leaves the house! Well, this is only the 4th day, and I don’t know how much longer it’ll last. I’m just gonna enjoy every moment of my freedom! ๐
Sorry about the bad quality of the following pictures, but mommy took these screen shots from her OLD Hi8 video camera. She set up her camera to watch me when she went out. Did she really think I would be BAD? muahaha

Hi8 — do they even make these anymore?
Day1 (PM), 8-22-11, Monday (the day our neighbor was robbed) Time left alone: 8 minutes.
The first time our places were switched, Nala barked and barked inside the crate. We weren’t really alone though — Taylor was hiding in her room, but we didn’t realize it. She kept texting mommy to let her know how things were going. Because Nala kept barking, mommy made this first trip a really short one.

The entire time mommy was gone, I stood by the front window and waited.
I didn’t know what to do with myself!

I watched Nala from the window, ’cause she kept barking.
We were sooo confused!
Day2 (AM), 8-23-11, Tuesday Time left alone: 15 minutes.
This morning when mommy went to put Nala in MY crate, I ran inside to claim it. Mommy had to ask me to get out so Nala could go in. Nala didn’t bark much this time.

The second time I was left alone outside of my crate,
I was a bit more active. Nala was also more quiet.

I paced in the middle of the floor…

this-a-way…

and that-a-way.

I walked back to the window and sniffed.
Nope, mommy wasn’t here yet.

Back to the middle of the floor I went.
Day2 (PM), 8-23-11, Tuesday Time left alone: 35 minutes.
When mommy left this time, I went to sleep in the middle of the floor. I didn’t worry, and I didn’t pace the floor.

I took a nice nap.

Then I looked outside and watched for mommy to come home.
Day3 (PM), 8-24-11, Wednesday Time left alone: 45 minutes.
Yesterday was the longest time so far! I was really good, too! I hung out on the couch most of the time, and sat in my comfy spot. I looked out of the small opening that mommy left with the window shade.

While I was waiting for mommy to come home, I looked outside.

I took a nap on the couch…

and watched outside some more.

Then I saw mommy backing her car in. Mommy and Taylor were home!
Mommy said that she had always hoped she could trust me and leave me outside my crate when everyone was gone. She really didn’t plan on leaving me out so soon, but I guess the robbery kinda sped things up a bit.
She’s hoping that one day she’ll be able to leave Nala out of the crate with me, but for right now, she feels that inside MY crate is the safest place for her. I guess she thinks that Nala wouldn’t be safe with me running around loose, while no one else was home. Maybe one day she’ll try it, just as she tried leaving me out. I can dream, can’t I? ๐

Congratulations on passing the test! We hope that poor Nala regains HER freedom soon as well.
How exciting, Bailey! You’re such a good girl!
Being out of the crate is really a big step. I have always been nervous when our dogs were out for the first few times too, but they always did pretty well. Tomorrow the puppy is staying home–He’ll be in the crate. I wonder how he’ll do….
Hooray for freedom! Hopefully you and Nala can hang out alone together soon.
PS Great idea setting up the camera.
Mommy better stop leaving without you. Wonder if Nala committed the robbery since she is in jail

I am so glad you are doing so well. I don’t think Mommy will ever let me out alone in the house. I get way too bored. I need to be in my crate. But I understand why your mommy wants to do it.

How exciting Bailey. It took a while for Katy to earn her freedom. Now we get to be together when Mom and Dad are gone.
Bailey, you is gettin’ all growed up!! Da Momster is givin’ you lots of responsibility to make sure dat your house is safe. Take good care of Nala so her isn’t scared!
Wuv,
Amber
Your Mom is very wise to do this in small time frames. You are such a good girl, Bailey. We all had to be crated for a long time while the humans were not at home, but now it is just Lightning. He is a bit of a dickens. Last night Mom left him in the kitchen with Ciara while she took Phantom and Thunder for a short walk – Dad was supposed to be pupsitting. When she got back, Dad was busy watching the news and Ciara was sleeping. Meanwhile some pup had knocked down the fireplace tools and chewed the little broom:( So that explains why he has to be crated.
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
Oh my goodness!! Those daddies don’t watch us as good as the mommies do. It’s a proven fact! ๐
Very good Bailey, we’re all real proud of you, ya done good!
Love the video idea! Rudy still stays in his crate when we’re gone. Just don’t trust him not to coax Jeffie into some kind of trouble.
Mommy says she understands that. That’s why Nala’s in my crate while I’m out. But I’m hoping that one day we’ll BOTH be out. ๐
Exciting news about freedom from the crate!! Sorry about the close robbery though, that has to be scary!

What a great idea of making the video. I’ve tried to watch Jack on cam but he always moves to where I can’t see him!
