Sooo… lately I’ve been itching a little bit. OK, maybe more than a little bit.
Update on my grandma (my mommy’s mommy)…
The biopsy results are in — it’s melanoma. My mommy’s mommy has beat different cancers in her life, including non-hodgkin’s lymphoma (as a child), breast cancer, and previous melanomas. We’re all planning on this one going into her conquered history as well. Please deposit all prayers in the comments below. Thank you, friends. <3 Now for Doctor Visit: Uh Oh…
Mommy checked me lots of times to see if I had fleas, but she never saw one speck. She said my skin actually looked really good. She gave me a bath with a moisturizing shampoo, since Nala was getting a bath because of her dry skin (see my 4-15-13 post). But that really didn’t help me much. I’m still gnawing at my skin and scratching. It’s gotten so bad that no one could even pet me without me feeling itchy. *Sniff*
At my doctor’s appointment 3 weeks ago, I learned that I had gained weight! My highest weight was recorded on June 29, 2012 — I was 76.8 lbs. Because of my hip dysplasia, I was told to go on a diet. By October 27, 2012, I had lost 5.8 lbs — I weighed 71 lbs. But this last visit on March 22, 2013, I weighed 80 lbs! I had GAINED 9 lbs!
My family is baffled as to how I gained weight. The only things they can think of, is 1. I haven’t been getting enough exercise… and 2. My food was switched to Iams Weight Control back in October, 2012. I definitely don’t eat many treats, so it can’t be that! So, Mommy’s started working out with me, and I just love it, ’cause I love to play! And she switched my food to Whole Earth Farms Adult Doggie Food, which is better than Iams. Maybe I can get my weight back down and that will make my legs feel better. I sure hope so!
My usual doctor wasn’t in on that day, so I saw a lady doctor. She said my skin looked perfect. She said my itchy skin could be an allergy, so she wanted me to try allergy medicine for at least a week.

I like riding in the car with mommy.
But not when the destination is the doctor.
I can smell the doctor’s office a mile away.
Yep. We were going to the doctor’s office. *Sigh*
Jeepers creepers! I weigh 80 lbs!
It wasn’t long before they took us in.
I managed to keep busy in the waiting room, though.
Kitty cat!
Waiting for the doctor to come in, was
very agonizing! I cried like a little puppy.
Well I didn’t know when she was gonna come in!
The lady doctor was nice enough, I guess, but I kinda like my regular doctor. She checked my eyes, ears and teeth, then checked my fur. Mommy thought it was so funny that she was talking to me like a little human. “OK, so now we’re going to look at your fur, OK?” (Like I was gonna answer her BOL.) “That didn’t hurt, did it?” At least she was nice.
She didn’t find anything, but she wanted us to try Benadryl for at least a week or so and see if that helped any. At the time I am writing this (2 weeks prior), we’re not sure if the Benadryl is helping. It’s just been a few days, and I’m still a bit itchy. I guess we’ll see!

Do I want to leave? You betcha!
I met a doggie on the way out.
I didn’t get his name, though.
I couldn’t wait to get home and see Nala.
I sure hope this itching stops soon. I miss
getting scratchies from my family. ðŸ™
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post…

So sorry to hear about your Grandma and I hope that you are soon itching less and the vets can figure out what’s wrong! Typists uncles dog is allergic to beef – that brings her out in itches! Just a thought!
Sorry to hear about your Grandma’s health troubles Bailey. Sending lots of strength, good vibes and wellness wishes her way!
Bailey I don’t like to go to the vet either – who wants to be poked and prodded? Mom says a lot of peeps don’t like goin to their docs either. I try real hard to stay very healthy so I only have to see them once a year 😉 Sure hope your itchies go away – I used to have them and it sure was aggravating!
Waggin at ya,
Roo
We are keeping our paws crossed that your Grandma beats this too! And for the itching…we hope that goes away. Mommy says Ash keeps gaining weight and she is feeding her less food and treats. We eat Iams maybe that is Ash’s problem too!
We have our Paws Crossed very tightly fur your grandma. We are sure she will Whip this one too!!!
OMD Bailey… today we stopped at OUR Dogtor’s Office to check on LARD CAN Ernie’s Weight… and guess what… after NO treats and stuffs fur like 87 YEARS… ERNIE GAINED 2 ounces !!!
WHAT is up with this??? We think it is some sort of Squirrel Attack… maybe they have CHANGED the scales at our Dogtor’s Offices… to make us look Bad!!!
REALLY hope your itchies get better.
Seriously, I am super itchy too. I think it’s because suddenly spring is upon us. I take half a benadryl every single night, and it has been helping. Sometimes, if I am super itchy, I have a whole one. Good luck!:)
Prayers for the grandma…….as for the scratches…welcome to the world of doggie allergies….sigh…it is no fun. I lost two thirds of me fur….went on allergy shots for a whole year…one a week and been an all the allergy meds…nothing worked. Finally we had no other option but to go on monthly depo medral shots…and finally some relief! Hope yours is just something to fix…have you changed cleaners, air freshness ….check around and see if there is anything new
Oh scratchy ichies are no fun. Unless the humans are doing it to us. Hope you get feeling better and the ichies go away. POTP being sent for your Grandma.
Blessings,
Goose
Sorry to hear about your grandma. We hope she is doing ok and we will be thinking about her.
Finn is in a constant state of Operation Phat, as I call it. She always needs to lose a few pounds!
Oh Bailey, we’re so very sorry to hear about your Grandma! From what you’ve told us about her, she’s a tough cookie, she’s a fighter! She beat it once, she can do it again! We’re sending her the POTP and are keeping her in our good thoughts too.
Well, it’s a good thing you don’t have fleas that’s fur sure! Having the itchies is NO fun at all. I get them all the time here in Florida. My handsome and cute Dr. Vet said I too have the Florida allergies just like my Mommy. Our eyes run all the time, our nose drips and we scratch and scratch. I take Benedryl too which helps butt only because it makes me tired and I sleep all the time from it. And when I’m sleeping, I don’t scratch. Funny how that works!
Sure hope the Benedryl works for you. Thanks for taking us with you on your trip to see the Vet. The pictures were fantastic, tho they did confirm that both you and I don’t like going there!
Hope you have an itch free kind of day!
Hugs,
Lily Belle
